Job description

Be Part Of A High-Performing Team:

Join a growing organization in the HVACR distribution industry that is making a major investment in enterprise data, analytics, and AI. The business is modernizing a long-standing legacy data environment, preparing for a major ERP consolidation, and building a future-state enterprise data management platform that will support governed analytics, scalable reporting, self-service BI, and future AI use cases.

This is a foundational opportunity to help shape how data is structured, governed, accessed, and trusted across the organization. The team is moving away from fragmented reporting practices, tribal knowledge, and legacy data warehouse patterns toward a modern Microsoft Fabric-based platform that can support long-term business growth, stronger decision-making, and a more consistent enterprise data strategy.

What's In Store For You:

This full-time opportunity offers the chance to serve as the organization’s first dedicated Data Architect / Data Platform Lead. The role will own long-term platform architecture, guide standards, influence business and IT leadership, and mentor technical contributors as the company builds a more mature data ecosystem.

The preferred location is Portland, OR, with an expectation of being in-office two days per week, typically Monday and Tuesday. Dallas, TX candidates will also be considered as a secondary preference. Remote work may require approval and is most likely to be considered only for exceptionally aligned talent.

The organization offers a strong benefits package including paid time off, retirement plan matching, medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid parental bonding time, wellness resources, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance resources, and additional employee support programs.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Define, govern, and evolve the enterprise data architecture and Microsoft Fabric platform strategy.
  • Own the long-term data platform vision, ensuring the platform scales securely, cost-effectively, and in alignment with business priorities.
  • Help lead the transition from a fragmented legacy SQL Server-based reporting environment to a modern enterprise data management platform.
  • Design end-to-end data architecture across ingestion, storage, modeling, integration, and consumption layers.
  • Establish enterprise standards for data modeling, semantic structures, taxonomy, nomenclature, metadata, lineage, governance, security, scalability, and cost management.
  • Partner with business and IT leaders to define platform roadmaps, priorities, sequencing, and architecture decisions ahead of a broader ERP transformation.
  • Support an initial MVP focused on key store sales and manufacturing sales data sets, replacing legacy analytic reporting and demonstrating value through modern Power BI dashboards.
  • Guide future modernization away from SSRS reports, SSAS cubes, scattered Excel/Access data sources, and legacy analytical tools.
  • Define platform patterns for API-based integrations and event-driven data flows.
  • Review and guide solution designs produced by engineering, analytics, and delivery teams.
  • Ensure the platform supports enterprise analytics, self-service BI, reporting, and AI use cases.
  • Mentor platform contributors and existing senior team members as the organization matures its data architecture practices.
  • Help drive adoption by partnering with stakeholders on communication, training, and organizational change around how data is used and understood.

Do you have the expertise to lead enterprise data platform architecture through transformation?

  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture, analytics platform leadership, data platform architecture, data warehouse modernization, or related enterprise data roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong experience designing enterprise data architecture and analytics platforms.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and cloud analytics ecosystems.
  • Experience modernizing legacy data environments, especially SQL Server-based warehouses, SSRS/SSAS reporting, Excel/Access-heavy reporting processes, or fragmented source-system copies.
  • Strong enterprise data modeling experience, including semantic models, taxonomy, nomenclature, metadata, lineage, and governed business definitions.
  • Experience designing architecture across ingestion, storage, modeling, integration, and consumption layers.
  • Understanding of data governance, security, compliance, platform standards, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Experience enabling Power BI or similar modern BI platforms for self-service analytics and business-facing dashboards.
  • Ability to lead architectural decisions in ambiguous or evolving environments.
  • Strong strategic planning and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to balance long-term platform vision with near-term delivery needs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain architectural direction, standards, tradeoffs, and decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders, business stakeholders, technical teams, and delivery partners without relying on direct authority.
  • Experience mentoring technical contributors and helping organizations mature their data practices.
  • Microsoft Cloud or Data Architecture certifications preferred, including Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600), Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), or Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203).
  • Enterprise architecture, data governance, or organizational change management exposure is a plus.
