Remote Point Cloud Modeling information

What is remote point cloud modeling?

Remote point cloud modeling involves creating 3D digital representations of objects or spaces using point cloud data, which is typically collected through laser scanners or photogrammetry. The 'remote' aspect means that the modeling work is performed from a location other than the site where the data was captured, often using specialized software to process and interpret the data. This technology is widely used in industries such as construction, architecture, surveying, and engineering for tasks like as-built documentation, measurement, and visualization. Remote point cloud modelers convert raw point cloud data into usable models, such as BIM or CAD files, that are valuable for planning, analysis, and project management.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote point cloud modeling, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote point cloud modeling is managing large data files, which can cause slow upload/download speeds and software lag. Ensuring a reliable internet connection and using cloud-based collaboration tools can help mitigate these issues. Additionally, clear communication with team members is crucial, as remote work can sometimes lead to misunderstandings about project specifications or deadlines. Regular virtual meetings and detailed documentation can help keep everyone aligned and projects on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote point cloud modeler?

To thrive as a Remote Point Cloud Modeler, you need expertise in 3D modeling, spatial data interpretation, and proficiency with point cloud processing, often supported by a degree in geomatics, engineering, or architecture. Familiarity with technical tools such as Autodesk ReCap, Bentley Pointools, and laser scanning equipment, as well as certifications in CAD or BIM, are typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure accurate digital representations, efficient project collaboration, and high-quality deliverables critical for industries like construction, surveying, and design.

In this role, you will join a collaborative Agile team of software engineers, DevOps engineers, business analysts, and technical stakeholders to design, administer, and optimize enterprise database solutions that support mission-critical healthcare applications. You will leverage PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, AWS, Azure, and automation tools to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing database environments.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases, including database architecture, schemas, tables, stored procedures, indexes, permissions, and other database objects.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance to ensure high availability, data integrity, scalability, and efficient query execution.
  • Develop SQL queries, reports, materialized views, and database solutions to support application development, analytics, and business reporting.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery strategies for on-premises and cloud-based database environments.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, DevOps engineers, and technical stakeholders to design, implement, document, and support enterprise database solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging database technologies, recommend process improvements, and support the continuous optimization of database infrastructure and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in database engineering, database administration, or a related role.
  • Experience administering and optimizing PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based database environments within AWS and Azure.
  • Experience implementing database migration, backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments and supporting CI/CD processes.
  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL development, database performance tuning, and query optimization.
  • Proficiency with one or more programming languages such as Java or Python.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure cloud platforms, including database deployment, administration, and management.
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and database monitoring tools.
  • Experience supporting legacy databases and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) database solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in a remote environment.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other federal government agencies.
  • Experience working within SAFe or Agile software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of advanced PostgreSQL features, including JSON, full-text search, PostGIS, WAL archiving, replication, and point-in-time recovery.
  • AWS, Azure, MongoDB, or other database-related certifications are preferred.
  • Experience working within a DevSecOps environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust or other required government clearance.
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
  • 401(k) with Employer Match.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) plus Federal Holidays.
  • Corporate Laptop.
  • Training Opportunities.
  • 100% Remote Opportunity.
