What is a Remote PMP?

A Remote PMP job refers to a project management role where the professional works remotely while leveraging their Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. These roles typically involve managing projects, coordinating teams, and ensuring successful project delivery using industry-standard methodologies. Remote PMP jobs are common in industries like IT, healthcare, finance, and consulting, where virtual collaboration tools enable efficient project execution. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills are essential for success in a remote setting.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote PMPs, and how can they be addressed?

Remote PMPs often face challenges related to coordinating teams across different time zones, maintaining clear communication, and ensuring accountability without in-person oversight. To address these obstacles, it’s important to establish regular check-ins, set clear expectations, and utilize collaboration tools for project tracking and updates. Successful Remote PMPs also foster a culture of transparency and trust within their teams. Adapting to these challenges not only helps keep projects on track, but also builds stronger, more efficient remote teams.

Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities set exceptional remote PMPs apart. These skills ensure the effective coordination and delivery of complex projects in a distributed, virtual environment.

Is it possible to work remotely as a project manager?

About Switch

At Switch, we don’t just design, build and operate data centers—we are enabling the technology of the future. Led by Founder & CEO, Rob Roy, we believe in revolutionary innovation, operational excellence and the principle of karma. Switch is where talented people come together to EVOLVE the digital world.

We believe that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about the people, culture, and purpose that make it happen. Every Switch team member contributes to a mission greater than themselves: to create the world’s most advanced digital infrastructure that powers the progress of humanity.

The Role: Technical Program Manager II

As a Technical Program Manager II, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of data center construction programs from early planning through commissioning and operational handover. This role exists to ensure hyperscale facilities are delivered on schedule, within scope, and aligned to Switch standards. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage risk, and drive execution across complex construction environments. You are accountable for program performance within your assigned scope.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage the full lifecycle of hyperscale data center construction programs, including pre-construction, design coordination, procurement tracking, construction, commissioning support, and operations handover.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, milestones, and execution plans.

  • Track scope, schedule, and cost performance against commitments.

  • Lead risk identification and maintain program risk registers.

  • Own mitigation plans and track risk resolution through project completion.

  • Manage change control processes, including evaluation of change orders and scope impacts.

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and design intent for alignment and constructability.

  • Coordinate submittals, RFIs, field changes, and design clarifications.

  • Partner with engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to resolve issues.

  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and applicable codes.

  • Maintain dashboards and weekly reporting for leadership.

  • Highlight key risks, issues, and required decisions in executive updates.

  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination meetings and drive alignment.

  • Support punch-list completion and contractual closeout requirements.

  • Travel up to 30% as required.

This position may require the candidate/employee to undergo additional background checks and drug screenings prior to and during the course of employment in support of customer-specific deployments.

What We’re Looking For
  • You take ownership of assigned programs and drive predictable outcomes.

  • You anticipate risks before they impact schedule or cost.

  • You remain calm and effective under pressure.

  • You communicate clearly across technical and executive audiences.

  • You manage ambiguity and shifting priorities without losing structure.

  • You influence stakeholders without direct authority.

  • You balance technical detail with program-level oversight.

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field.

  • 3–6 years of experience managing construction projects.

  • Experience managing projects from pre-construction through handover.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.

  • Understanding of construction sequencing and field execution.

  • Experience using project management software such as MS Project, Primavera P6, Procore, or Smartsheet.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in data center or mission-critical construction environments.

  • Experience in hyperscale or large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Familiarity with commissioning and integrated systems testing.

  • PMP certification.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every preferred qualification.
