How to make $100,000 a year working from home?

A remote playwright can reach a $100,000 annual income by building a strong portfolio of published works, securing multiple freelance or contract projects, and developing a reputation in the industry. Enhancing skills with writing, editing, and marketing tools, along with networking and pitching to publishers or production companies, can increase earning potential. Consistent work, diverse income streams, and professional development are key to achieving this goal from home.

Is Playwright in demand now?

Playwright is a growing skill in the software testing and automation industry, with increasing demand for professionals skilled in this open-source automation framework. Companies seek Playwright experts to improve testing efficiency across web applications, making it a valuable skill for automation engineers and QA specialists. The demand is supported by the expanding adoption of modern web development practices and automation tools.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Playwrights when collaborating with production teams, and how can these be addressed?

Remote Playwrights often encounter challenges related to communication and feedback, as they are not physically present during rehearsals or production meetings. This can make it harder to observe how their script is interpreted and to quickly respond to changes or questions from directors and actors. To address these challenges, it's helpful to establish regular virtual meetings, maintain open channels for feedback, and use collaborative tools for script revisions. Building strong relationships with the creative team and being proactive in seeking updates can also help ensure your vision is understood and realized.

What is a Remote Playwright?

A Remote Playwright is a professional who writes scripts, plays, or dramatic works while working from a remote location, rather than in a traditional office or theater setting. They often collaborate with directors, producers, and other creatives online to develop and refine their work. Remote Playwrights may write for theater, film, television, or digital media, and leverage virtual tools for meetings, script readings, and revisions. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work with teams and theaters around the world.

Job description

QA Automation Engineer
Location: Remote
Working Hours: U.S. Business Hours
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We're hiring a QA Automation Engineer to build, maintain, and scale automated testing systems for a fast-growing, product-focused technology company.
This is an automation-first engineering role focused on Playwright and TypeScript - not a manual QA position.
You will work directly with frontend and backend engineers to improve product quality, strengthen regression coverage, eliminate flaky tests, and ensure reliable deployments across the development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate is highly technical, ownership-driven, and experienced building scalable end-to-end automation frameworks in modern SaaS environments.
If you enjoy solving complex testing challenges, improving framework reliability, and working closely with engineering teams in fast-paced product environments, this role is for you.
What You'll Own
End-to-End Test Automation
• Build, maintain, and expand E2E automation coverage using Playwright and TypeScript
• Develop scalable and maintainable automation frameworks for critical product workflows
• Ensure strong regression coverage across frontend and backend systems
• Write reliable, reusable, and performance-focused automated tests
Test Stability & Framework Reliability
• Identify, troubleshoot, and eliminate flaky tests
• Improve test execution performance and framework stability
• Diagnose issues related to asynchronous behavior, DOM interactions, and network requests
• Maintain stable and reliable automation environments across releases
CI/CD & Infrastructure Integration
• Integrate automation suites into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing
• Ensure automated tests run efficiently within deployment workflows
• Maintain test data strategies and reliable test environments
• Support deployment confidence through automated quality validation
Collaboration & Product Quality
• Collaborate directly with frontend and backend engineers during feature development
• Participate in release validation and quality planning discussions
• Support engineering teams with testing strategy and automation best practices
• Improve overall product reliability through proactive automation coverage
AI-Assisted Testing & Optimization
• Utilize AI tools to support exploratory testing and edge-case discovery
• Identify opportunities to improve automation workflows through intelligent tooling
• Continuously optimize testing processes for speed, reliability, and scalability
What Makes You a Great Fit
• You think like an engineer, not just a tester
• You take ownership of automation systems and long-term framework stability
• You enjoy solving reliability and scalability challenges
• You are highly analytical and detail-oriented
• You thrive in low-management, high-autonomy environments
• You proactively improve systems instead of waiting for direction
Required Experience & Skills
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with Playwright
• Strong Cypress background is acceptable if willing to transition to Playwright
• Proven experience building and maintaining E2E automation frameworks
• Deep understanding of:
• DOM interaction
• Network requests
• Asynchronous behavior
• Diagnosing flaky tests
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Preferred Experience
• Experience building automation infrastructure from scratch
• Strong understanding of test data management strategies
• Experience testing B2B SaaS products or multi-tenant systems
• Familiarity with role-based access and permissions testing
• Exposure to AI-assisted testing workflows and automation tools
• Experience working in fast-moving startup or product-led environments
What a Typical Day Looks Like
A QA Automation Engineer's day revolves around improving automation reliability, expanding test coverage, and supporting engineering velocity. You will:
• Develop and maintain Playwright E2E tests
• Review failed tests and diagnose instability issues
• Improve framework performance and regression reliability
• Collaborate with engineers on feature releases and test coverage
• Maintain CI/CD automation workflows and test environments
• Identify edge cases and improve automation coverage using AI-assisted workflows
• Continuously optimize testing systems for speed, scalability, and reliability
In short: you ensure the product ships quickly, safely, and reliably through scalable automation systems.
Key Metrics for Success (KPIs)
• Stability and reliability of automation frameworks
• Reduction in flaky or failing tests
• Increased automated regression coverage
• Faster and more reliable CI/CD testing cycles
• Reduced production bugs and release issues
• Test execution speed and framework performance improvements
Interview Process
• Initial Screening Call (Pavago)
• Technical Assessment / Automation Review
• Client Technical Interview
• Final Interview (Culture & Ownership Fit)
• Offer & Onboarding
