While both roles involve visual creativity and remote work, their core tasks differ, making each suitable for different skill sets and industry needs.

Are video editors still in demand?

Video editors are still in demand as businesses and content creators increasingly rely on video for marketing, social media, and entertainment. Skills in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, along with a strong portfolio, can enhance job prospects in this growing field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Photo Video Editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Photo Video Editor, you need strong proficiency in photo and video editing, a keen eye for visual storytelling, and a portfolio demonstrating your creative expertise. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and knowledge of digital asset management systems are typically required. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and communication skills set top editors apart when collaborating remotely with clients or teams. These abilities ensure high-quality content delivery, efficient workflows, and successful client satisfaction in a remote work context.

How do Remote Photo Video Editors typically collaborate with photographers and clients to ensure project requirements are met?

Remote Photo Video Editors often work closely with photographers, videographers, and clients through digital communication tools such as email, project management software, and video calls. Clear communication is essential to understand creative direction, deadlines, and feedback. Editors may participate in regular check-ins, share drafts for review, and quickly incorporate revisions to align with the client’s vision. Building strong virtual relationships and maintaining responsiveness are key to successful collaboration in a remote setting.

How much do online video editors make?

Online video editors typically earn between $20 and $50 per hour, depending on experience, skill level, and project complexity. Freelance editors may charge per project or hour, while those employed full-time often have annual salaries ranging from $40,000 to $80,000. Proficiency with editing software like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro can influence earning potential.

Can I work remotely as a video editor?

Yes, remote work is common for video editors, including those specializing in photo and video editing. Many employers and clients hire remote editors who are proficient with editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve, and who can collaborate virtually using cloud storage and communication tools. Remote video editing offers flexibility in schedule and location, but it requires strong self-discipline and reliable internet access.

Is AI replacing video editors?

AI technology is increasingly used to assist video editors by automating tasks like editing, color correction, and effects, but it does not fully replace the creative and decision-making skills of a professional video editor. Human editors are still essential for storytelling, nuanced editing, and quality control, especially in complex projects. Proficiency with editing software and understanding AI tools can enhance a remote video editor's efficiency and output.

What does a Remote Photo Video Editor do?

A Remote Photo Video Editor is responsible for editing and enhancing photos and videos from a remote location, often working from home or another offsite environment. Their tasks typically include color correction, trimming footage, adding effects, and assembling final products according to client or project specifications. They use specialized software like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro to achieve professional results. This role requires strong technical skills, creativity, and the ability to collaborate with clients or teams through online communication tools.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

{{firstname}} is seeking an innovative content editor/manager with a passion for content creation and for helping nonprofits. The Program Associate, Video role requires a robust understanding of all phases of short-form video production, including light motion graphics work, and a heavy emphasis on editing. The {{firstname}} Program Associate, Video will report to a Senior Program Manager while working directly with all Program Managers and Program Associates to deliver, manage, and enhance our clients’ authentic fundraising video content. Much of this content is created by students, and the VA will work closely with those students to ensure quality, punctuality, and to communicate revision notes to the students. Occasional training to elevate the skills of those students will periodically be delivered, and the Program Associate, Video will be a key player in those trainings.

We are firstly looking for someone who can edit raw footage to exact script specs on tight deadlines, and secondly a candidate who is passionate about distilling and communicating edit notes to our student content creators. We are also looking for a candidate who can “see the pieces” clearly enough to anticipate and contribute other narrative options for existing content, and envision places where dynamic b-roll and graphics can be added. Being able to generate intermediate-level graphics content like animated pop-ups and lower thirds would elevate a candidate for this role. Having some experience or awareness of the various roles in traditional film production would also serve this candidate well.

Qualifications

  • Content creation and video editing experience in Adobe creative suites or similar platforms
  • Keen attention to detail and experience in editing video to scripted specifications
  • Demonstrated history of capturing interviews, b-roll and other media to weave a narrative
  • Demonstrated ability to create basic motion graphics like animated lower thirds
  • Ability to manage and organize video media and content libraries
  • Ability to assist multiple client engagements simultaneously
  • Experience developing and executing video marketing plans and strategies
  • A positive professional demeanor and dedication to serving {{firstname}}’s client partners
  • Bachelor’s degree

A “day in the life” of a Program Associate, Video at {{firstname}}

  • Auditing content across all clients to ensure uniformity of organization, as well as tracking client project use and popularity across clients

  • Managing and coaching students on the production of video content and providing useful feedback and direction to the student teams
  • Meeting with {{firstname}} team members to deliver status updates on students, and get up to speed on developing strategies for current and future client partners
  • Drafting early outlines for additional student trainings and working under Program Manager direction to refine those outlines into robust training modules
  • Depending on workload, client needs, and {{firstname}} capacity, the VA may occasionally also travel to participate in on-site client training and content development

Compensation, Location and additional details

  • Approximately $45,000/year to $55,000/year, commensurate with experience
  • Benefits package available including health and dental insurance, 401K match, and paid time off
  • Fully remote work environment (with some overnight travel to client sites) is an option
