What are remote paralegals?

Remote paralegals are legal professionals who provide paralegal services from a location outside of a traditional law office, often working from home. They assist attorneys with tasks such as legal research, drafting documents, case preparation, and client communication using digital tools. Remote paralegals rely on technology to securely access and manage case files, collaborate with legal teams, and meet deadlines. This role allows for flexibility and can support law firms, corporations, or independent attorneys across different locations.

What Does a Remote Paralegal Do?

As a remote paralegal, your duties are to perform legal research, prepare legal documents, and interview witnesses or experts preparing to give testimony in civil or criminal trials, arbitration, litigation, and other forms of legal administration. Some paralegals work closely with a specific attorney at a firm, providing them with significant assistance in developing a case. You complete tasks like pulling and reviewing relevant case laws and precedents, drafting legal briefs, collecting information from the client, and ensuring that you file paperwork appropriately. Other paralegals provide more general administrative support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Paralegal, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Paralegal, you need a solid understanding of legal concepts, document drafting, and research, typically supported by a paralegal certificate or relevant degree. Familiarity with legal research databases (like Westlaw or LexisNexis), case management software, and secure file-sharing platforms is essential. Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills help you stand out in a virtual environment. These abilities are crucial for delivering accurate legal support, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring seamless collaboration with attorneys and clients remotely.

How does a remote paralegal typically collaborate with attorneys and other team members?

As a remote paralegal, collaboration with attorneys and legal staff often occurs through digital communication tools such as email, video conferencing, and case management software. You may participate in virtual meetings, share documents securely online, and use project management platforms to track case progress. Building strong communication skills and being proactive in providing updates are essential for staying aligned with the team. Despite the distance, most remote paralegals are expected to be responsive and maintain regular touchpoints to ensure smooth workflow and effective support.

How to Become a Paralegal Who Works Remotely

The educational qualifications you need to become a virtual or remote paralegal vary. Many employers prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or a closely related field. Some employers accept candidates with an associate’s degree, certificate, or experience. A remote paralegal needs organizational skills and a stable internet connection to complete their duties, which may include legal document preparation, data entry, and research on behalf of an attorney or a law firm.

Job description

Description
If you're comfortable working in the Superior Courts in King County, Pierce County, Thurston County, or Snohomish County, that's a bonus.
Truce Law is looking for a family law paralegal with a minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in the state of Washington to join our legal team. Our ideal paralegal is organized, detail-oriented, and ready to play an important role on our legal team. You'll draft legal documents such as declarations, prepare briefs, conduct legal research for hearing preparation, and keep case files and other important information neatly organized and easily accessible. If you're interested in advancing your paralegal career with growth opportunities, we want to hear from you.
Our law firm sets itself apart by marketing to clients who are looking for amicable and collaborative approaches to divorce, with contested divorce cases being the exception at our firm. If you want to spend more time with clients who are interested in settling their divorce peacefully through negotiation, Truce Law is the place for you.
As a remote family law paralegal at our firm, you'll work with legal mentors who have decades of experience helping clients negotiate difficult divorce challenges, while also playing a leadership role on a team committed to helping families achieve faster results by resolving legal issues with less conflict and less litigation.
Clients want to negotiate healthier co-parenting arrangements for their families and hire us because they don't want to go to court. We are looking for a team player who loves creative problem-solving and who wants to help couples and families move forward using conflict resolution rather than an adversarial approach.
Our team loves working for Truce Law because of our relaxed atmosphere and our focus on collaborative law, which means our paralegals aren't regularly facing the kinds of higher conflict cases (and the associated stress involved). Our mentors are committed to nurturing your progress and development as a family paralegal within our firm.
We even have sponsored employees, so they could begin the Rule 6 program (https://www.wsba.org/for-legal-professionals/join-the-legal-profession-in-wa/law-clerk). Finally, we have a diverse staff from around the world with quarterly events, both online and in person, to bring the team together.
Benefits Include
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (employer-paid coverage for employees)
  • Four weeks Paid Time Off (Three weeks PTO + One-week paid winter holiday closure).
  • 10 paid holidays
  • 401(k) with 3% firm contribution
  • Flexible schedule
  • Performance bonuses
  • Firm-provided technology and support
  • Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA)
  • Professional Development Stipend
  • AAA Membership: Roadside assistance, identity theft protection, discounted pet insurance

Apply with confidence; your application will be kept completely confidential.
