Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote, with occasional travel required for local and national conferences.
Position Summary
The GIS Coordinator is responsible for planning, analysis, visualization, and surveillance activities related to communicable diseases, health conditions, healthcare resources, accessibility, and public health preparedness. This role serves as the team lead and primary point of contact for the Public Health Geographics team within the Office of Data & Analytics.
The ideal candidate will possess strong GIS expertise, project management capabilities, stakeholder engagement experience, and the ability to develop innovative geospatial solutions that support public health initiatives across the state.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate GIS projects, ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Public Health Geographics team.
Collaborate regularly with stakeholders, including state agencies, local health departments, private-sector partners, and the Geographic Information Office (GIO).
Conduct geospatial and geostatistical analyses related to disease surveillance, outbreak investigations, disaster response, and public health preparedness.
Create, maintain, and enhance geospatial datasets, maps, dashboards, and data visualizations.
Develop and automate GIS workflows that integrate multiple datasets and analytical methods.
Build and maintain web-based GIS applications using configurable services and custom development.
Utilize GIS software, statistical tools, and data science technologies to support public health initiatives.
Apply GIS data governance best practices and ensure data quality standards are maintained.
Provide recommendations on GIS methodologies, workflows, and technical solutions.
Support emergency response operations and provide logistical assistance when the Department Operations Center (DOC) is activated.
Explore and implement GeoAI capabilities to improve geospatial analysis and decision-making.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
GIS & Technical Skills
Minimum 2 years of experience with geospatial concepts and GIS methodologies.
Minimum 2 years of experience with cartographic design and map creation.
Minimum 2 years of experience using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop.
Minimum 2 years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS Online, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms, and configurable applications.
Minimum 2 years of experience with:
Python
ArcGIS API for Python
ArcPy
Data science packages
Web automation and data scraping tools
Minimum 2 years of experience with JavaScript and ArcGIS JavaScript API.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with SQL in Oracle and SQL Server environments.
Leadership & Project Management
Minimum 4 years of managerial or supervisory experience in:
Public health
Data and technology environments
Or a comparable field
Minimum 2 years of experience engaging and collaborating with stakeholders, agencies, health departments, and external partners.
Minimum 2 years of project management experience, including communication, organization, scheduling, and performance tracking.
Data Governance
Minimum 2 years of experience implementing GIS-specific data governance best practices.
