Job description

MARKERY LAW LLC

HEAD OF OPERATIONS

THE PERSON

Are you someone who naturally brings structure, clarity, and follow-through to a fast-moving business? Do you take ownership of people, processes, and priorities without waiting to be told what to do? Are you energized by supporting visionary leaders and ensuring the operations run smoothly behind the scenes? Do you communicate clearly, solve problems quickly, and keep teams aligned and moving forward?ย  If you are a proactive, organized operator who thrives in a collaborative, high-accountability environment, we want to talk to you!

Our ideal Head of Operations is:

  • Ownership-Oriented: You take full responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. You step in, figure it out, and move things forward without waiting for direction.
  • Process & Efficiency Focused: You naturally look for better ways to operate. You build structure, refine workflows, and ensure processes are created and consistently followed.
  • Adaptable & Non-Rigid Communicator: You communicate with clarity and intention, both verbally and in writing, especially in a remote environment. You're comfortable having direct, sometimes difficult conversations and adjusting your communication style to engage effectively across different cultures, generations, personalities, and experience levels.
  • Collaborative & Low Ego: You value every member of the team and work well in a non-hierarchical, partnership-driven environment. You lead through influence, not authority.
  • Emotionally Intelligent & Professional: You are aware, respectful, and composed in all interactions. You can navigate different personalities while maintaining trust and accountability.

As our ideal Head of Operations, you bring a powerful blend of strategic thinking and operational excellence. You lead with integrity, hold yourself and others accountable, and take pride in driving meaningful results. You operate efficiently, always seeking smarter, more effective ways to move the business forward. With a strong process-oriented mindset, you create clarity and consistency that empower the entire team to perform at a higher level. In this role, you play a pivotal part in shaping how Markery Law operates by freeing up the founders, strengthening the foundation, and helping the firm scale with intention and confidence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate leadership priorities into clear action plans and ensure consistent follow-through
  • Act as the central point of coordination across the business, keeping work aligned and moving forward

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate, build, and refine workflows across key areas of the business to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs to ensure processes are consistently followed by the team
  • Continuously identify and implement improvements to systems, tools, and overall operations

People Operations & Team Support

  • Oversee onboarding, offboarding, and the overall employee lifecycle to ensure a smooth and consistent team experience
  • Support performance management, including tracking goals, reviews, and driving accountability across the team
  • Manage PTO, scheduling, and team coordination while fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable work environment

Financial & Administrative Operations

  • Coordinate with bookkeeping and finance to support payroll, invoicing, expense management, and overall financial operations
  • Review financial reports and support budgeting, forecasting, and KPI tracking to inform leadership decision-making
  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency across billing, collections, and financial workflows

Vendor & Systems Management

  • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers
  • Oversee tools and systems (e.g., Clio, CRM, internal platforms) to ensure effective use
  • Research and implement new tools or vendors as needed to improve operations

Project Management & Strategic Support

  • Support firm-wide initiatives and special projects from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with business goals
  • Prioritize and manage multiple initiatives across the business, maintaining momentum and focus
  • Provide operational support to leadership by keeping them informed while removing them from day-to-day project details and ensuring timely completion

Recruiting & Remote Management

  • Support recruiting efforts, including sourcing, coordinating interviews, and onboarding
  • Help build and maintain a strong, high-performing team aligned with company values
  • Manage communication, meetings, and alignment across a fully remote team
  • Ensure accountability and consistent execution across distributed team members
  • Assist with marketing and business support initiatives as needed

** This is full-time, 100% remote position based out of Washington, DC. **

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Success leading and managing multiple functional areas (e.g., operations, HR, finance coordination, admin)
  • Experience working in a professional services environment (law, consulting, accounting, agency, finance etc.)
