Regional Operations Manager โ€“ Remote with Travel

Lead operations. Support site leaders. Drive safety, service, and performance.

US 1 Shorthaul is hiring a Regional Operations Manager to oversee multiple yard management and transportation operations across an assigned region. This is a remote, home-based role with frequent travel to support site operations, customer relationships, safety, staffing, and performance.

This role is ideal for a hands-on logistics leader who understands transportation operations, yard management, driver teams, customer service, and the importance of building strong site-level leadership.

Job Summary

The Regional Operations Manager is responsible for leading and supporting multiple transportation and yard management sites. This role directly manages Site Managers within the assigned region and ensures each location is operating safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer expectations and company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day performance across assigned yard management and transportation sites.
  • Lead, coach, and support Site Managers to drive safety, service, staffing, productivity, and accountability.
  • Review operational KPIs, identify performance gaps, and create action plans for improvement.
  • Partner with site leadership to review staffing, workflow, equipment needs, trailer movement, billing, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure sites are meeting productivity, quality, safety, and customer service standards.
  • Maintain regular communication with Site Managers, customers, and internal leadership.
  • Address performance issues, employee relations concerns, and operational challenges that impact day-to-day business.
  • Support compliance with safety standards, company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with planning and execution of operational improvements across yards and distribution centers.
  • Provide backup support for Site Managers when needed.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of transportation, logistics, yard, and/or distribution operations.
  • Experience leading multi-site operations preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with customers, drivers, site leaders, and senior leadership.
  • Comfortable providing direct feedback and holding teams accountable.
  • Ability to review operational data, identify trends, and create practical action plans.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organization, time management, and follow-through.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and related systems.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of logistics, transportation, or operations experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership or management experience in logistics, transportation, yard, fleet, or related operations preferred.

Work Environment

This is a remote, home-based position when not traveling. The role also requires frequent travel to field operations, customer sites, yards, and distribution center environments. This position routinely uses standard office equipment, including a computer, phone, tablet, and related business systems.

Position Type and Expected Hours

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours may vary based on workload, travel, operational needs, and business demands. Core business hours should be observed when possible.

Travel

This role requires frequent travel. Approximately 50%โ€“80% travel should be expected.

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and use a computer, tablet, or smartphone for extended periods. The position may require occasional bending, standing, filing, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
