Job description

Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant - Gynecologic Oncology

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support Gynecologic Oncology services at Henry Ford St. John Hospital through a combination of onsite and remote clinic coverage. This role provides comprehensive care for gynecologic oncology patients across the cancer care continuum, including clinic visits (consults, follow-ups, pre- and post-operative care, and chemotherapy education), care coordination, and clinical triage. The APP will manage chemotherapy patients by initiating and updating orders, tracking and coordinating treatment regimens and schedules, supporting insurance authorization processes, and maintaining chemotherapy flowsheets. Additional responsibilities include triaging patient calls, addressing urgent and emergent clinical concerns, ordering and reviewing imaging and laboratory studies, coordinating blood transfusions in inpatient and outpatient settings, and supporting navigation for newly diagnosed patients. Candidates must have oncology specialty certification (OCN or AOCNP), demonstrated EPIC/EMR competency, and prior oncology and/or OB/GYN experience; new graduates will not be considered. Preferred qualifications include chemotherapy certification, experience with complex patient management and post-operative care, strong clinical triage skills, interest or experience in OR support and tumor board participation, and a collaborative, flexible approach with a strong interest in learning and educating team members. References will be requested.

Key responsibilities include evaluating and treating work-related injuries and illnesses, managing bloodborne pathogen exposures and vaccination programs, performing medical surveillance and respirator fit testing, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and CDC guidelines.

Additional role and practice highlights include partnering closely with an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Metro-West market (Southfield/Novi), working alongside an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) as part of the practice's care team, joining a collaborative surgical practice with three physician surgeons, having a clinic held three days per week with one day dedicated to each physician, having physicians with dedicated OR time outside of clinic hours, and having a clinic volume ranging from 20–55 patients per day, offering a manageable and structured schedule.

Qualifications include NP or PA certification, oncology specialty certification required (OCN or AOCNP), oncology experience, preferred (MA, LPN, RN, Pharmacy Tech), ER or OR experience, preferred, 3 years min. APP experience, EPIC and EMR competency required, chemotherapy certification and patient education experience, preferred, experience with complex patient management and post-operative care, ability to clinically triage and assess urgent vs. emergency patient needs, strong collaborative skills, flexible, team oriented, and eager to learn and educate, OR experience, preferred, tumor board participation experience or interest.

Education and training include completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) for Nurse Practitioners, and completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) for Physician Assistants.

Licensure includes current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan, or in the process of applying (proof of application required). Certification includes national certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan (e.g., ANCC, AANP) for Nurse Practitioners, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for Physician Assistants. Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required (may be obtained after hire). DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure includes DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing for Physician Assistants, DEA registration required through credentialing; NPs do not hold a Michigan CSL and will use their Michigan license number during the application process for Nurse Practitioners.
