Exciting Opportunity for an Experienced PLC Automation Specialist II in Carlsbad, NM!


Are you a seasoned automation professional with deep expertise in Allen-Bradley systems and a passion for maintaining and optimizing industrial automation in challenging environments? Join our dynamic team as a PLC Automation Specialist II and play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and safety of our onshore oil and gas operations. This is your chance to work on cutting-edge automation systems, troubleshoot complex control processes, and make a tangible impact in a high-stakes industry—all on a rotating 7/7 schedule that offers consistent work-life balance.


As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, programming in Studio 5000, configuring control systems, and supporting instrumentation diagnostics across various remote sites. Your expertise will help sustain the integrity of our automation infrastructure, ensuring smooth operations in well pads, compressor stations, and more. We're looking for an independent, hands-on professional who thrives in remote settings and can hit the ground running.


Required Skills:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as an Automation Specialist in oil & gas or related industries
  • Strong proficiency with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View)
  • Expertise in PLC/HMI programming, troubleshooting, and system commissioning
  • Experience with instrumentation calibration, diagnostics, and loop tuning
  • Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, P&ID interpretation, and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to operate aerial lifts and work safely in confined or energized environments


Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with SAP or other CMMS tools
  • Familiarity with control narratives, Cause & Effect matrices
  • Additional experience in remote field operations or similar industries


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in Instrumentation, Automation, or a related field; GED with substantial experience also considered
  • Over 3 years of hands-on experience in oil & gas automation systems


Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to work a strict 7/7 rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts
  • Ability to work independently, travel to remote sites, and operate specialized equipment
  • Capable of adhering to all safety and compliance protocols, including OSHA, NEC, and NFPA standards
