What is a remote offshore planner?

A Remote Offshore Planner is a professional responsible for coordinating and scheduling activities for offshore operations, such as oil rigs or wind farms, from a remote location. They use specialized planning software to manage maintenance, logistics, manpower, and resources, ensuring that offshore projects run smoothly and efficiently. By working remotely, they leverage digital tools and communication systems to collaborate with on-site teams and stakeholders, helping to minimize downtime and increase productivity. This role is crucial in industries where offshore work is common and requires careful logistical planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote offshore planner?

To thrive as a Remote Offshore Planner, you need strong project planning, scheduling, and logistics coordination skills, often supported by a background in engineering or project management. Proficiency with planning software such as Primavera P6, SAP, and Microsoft Project, as well as relevant safety and offshore certifications, is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities help you manage remote teams and adapt to changing offshore environments. These skills ensure operational efficiency, safety compliance, and successful project delivery in complex offshore operations.

What are some common challenges faced by remote offshore planners, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote Offshore Planners often face challenges such as coordinating across multiple time zones, ensuring clear communication with offshore teams, and adapting to rapidly changing project requirements. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish structured communication channels, use project management tools tailored for remote collaboration, and maintain flexibility in planning. Successful planners proactively address potential delays by regularly updating schedules and collaborating closely with both onshore and offshore stakeholders to keep projects on track.

What is the difference between Remote Offshore Planner vs Remote Onshore Planner?

AspectRemote Offshore PlannerRemote Onshore Planner
Work EnvironmentCoordinates offshore project activities, often in international locations, with remote communicationManages on-site project planning, typically within the same country or region
Required CredentialsProject management certifications, industry-specific licenses, offshore safety standardsProject management certifications, industry licenses, local safety standards
Industry UsageCommon in oil & gas, maritime, and large-scale engineering projectsUsed in construction, manufacturing, and infrastructure projects

The main difference between a Remote Offshore Planner and a Remote Onshore Planner lies in their work environment and project focus. Offshore planners handle international or remote offshore projects, often requiring specific safety standards and international coordination. Onshore planners focus on local or regional projects, working primarily within the country or nearby regions. Both roles require similar certifications but differ in their operational context and industry applications.

Senior QA Engineer 2, Team Lead - ERP Platform

Job description

Description
Senior QA Engineer 2, Team Lead - ERP Platform (Next-Generation Products)
Location: Remote, USA
We also will consider hybrid-work for those local to either Wayne, PA or Naperville, IL
Employment Type: Full-time
The Opportunity
Software quality assurance is being fundamentally disrupted. The tools, the workflows, the mental models - all of it is in motion. We're looking for a QA Lead who sees that disruption as an opportunity, not a threat.
This is not a seat-warming role. We need a hands-on leader who can reimagine what QA looks like in an era of AI-assisted development - someone who will challenge assumptions, experiment boldly, and raise the quality bar on the new generation of our ERP platform. You will be a foundational voice in shaping how quality is practiced across our next-generation cloud products as we build them from the ground up under our AWS-native ERP platform.
You'll lead a team of approximately six offshore QA contractors, embed deeply with engineering and product leadership, and be a practitioner yourself - writing tests, debugging failures, designing strategies, and introducing AI-augmented QA workflows that your team can learn from and build on.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead and Innovate
  • Own QA strategy and execution across our next-generation ERP products - cloud-native, AWS-hosted, and actively growing.
  • Define what modern QA looks like for a team where AI tools are first-class contributors to test design, automation scaffolding, defect analysis, and coverage planning.
  • Challenge inherited assumptions about how testing is done. Propose and implement better approaches. Be the person who makes us think differently.
  • Establish practical QA metrics - automation coverage, regression effectiveness, defect leakage, flaky test rates, performance baselines - and use them to drive real decisions.

Lead the Team
  • Mentor, coordinate, and raise the quality of an offshore QA contractor team across test planning, work assignment, review, and quality standards.
  • Partner closely with developers to keep automated tests reliable, maintainable, and wired into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Communicate risk clearly and confidently to engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders.

Execute Hands-On
  • Build and maintain automated test coverage for UI, API, regression, smoke, and critical ERP business workflows.
  • Contribute directly to automation using tools such as Playwright, Selenium/WebDriver, Cucumber, REST Assured, TestNG/Serenity, or equivalents.
  • Design and execute performance/load testing using JMeter, k6, Gatling, or comparable tools.
  • Strengthen manual QA and exploratory testing practices, regression planning, defect triage, and release readiness.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of QA experience including hands-on test automation.
  • 2+ years leading or mentoring QA engineers or offshore QA teams.
  • Strong experience testing enterprise web applications end-to-end.
  • Practical experience with modern browser automation (Playwright, Selenium/WebDriver) and BDD-style frameworks (Cucumber).
  • Experience testing REST APIs using REST Assured, Postman, or comparable tools.
  • Experience planning and executing performance or load tests.
  • Strong SQL and database validation skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of using AI tools to meaningfully improve QA throughput, coverage, or quality - not just as a talking point.
  • A mindset of ownership and agency: you identify problems, propose solutions, and drive them to completion without waiting to be asked

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience testing AWS-hosted or cloud-native applications (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, RDS, or similar).
  • Experience with ERP, HR, payroll, finance, or other complex workflow-heavy enterprise systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD integration for automated test suites.
  • Experience building test data strategies for complex multi-tenant business workflows.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing, security testing concepts, and production observability/log analysis.
  • Experience improving brittle or flaky automation suites - and keeping them fixed.
  • Experience with reporting pipelines, batch jobs, integrations, or stateful backend processes.

What We're Really Looking For
Someone who has looked at what AI is doing to software development and thought hard about what it means for QA - and who has opinions and experiments to show for it. Someone who is energized by building something new rather than maintaining something old.
The person who will thrive here is equal parts practitioner and strategist: they can write a Playwright test in the morning, coach an offshore engineer in the afternoon, and spend an evening thinking about what the test suite should look like in two years. They don't need a perfect greenfield environment, a fully-staffed team, or a playbook handed to them. They make the playbook.
What Success Looks Like
90 days: You understand our ERP platform and its quality landscape, have built credibility with engineering and product teams, established clear standards for the offshore QA team, and surfaced the highest-value opportunities for automation and coverage improvement.
6 months: You have demonstrably improved automation reliability and maintainability, introduced AI-assisted QA workflows the team is actively using, strengthened performance testing, and reduced release risk in measurable ways. The team is executing better because you're leading it.
1 year: QA is a strategic differentiator for the ERP platform - not a checkbox. You've helped define what that means and made it real.
