Summary
About the Position: Incumbent is responsible for performing office automation and specialized clerical functions in support of the organization assigned. Utilizes a variety of personal computer-based hardware components, peripherals, and software.

  • Utilizing word processing software which permits creation, formatting, modification, and electronic printing of a variety of documents.
  • Utilizing database applications or software, inputs and updates database information as required, makes standard and ad hoc queries and retrieves information for use in preparation of standard and nonstandard reports.
  • Utilizing electronic mail software. Receives and distributes electronic mail for the unit and sends electronic mail correspondence to other elements as required in support of daily operations.
  • Preparing requests for TDY, processes clearance requests, prepares travel vouchers and itineraries, makes reservations, etc.
  • Tracking and enters employee time, attendance and labor as required in various software platforms.

Minimum Qualifications GS-05:
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing a variety of personal computer based software, components and peripherals to prepare correspondence, edit documents, and enter data such as Microsoft Office suite applications and other automated programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education:
Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience
: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Minimum Qualifications GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using software programs to create, edit, and maintain a wide range of documents and reports as well as coordinating training and/or travel for employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education:
A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Accounting, Public Administration, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest nontemporary competitive appointment.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
