Remote Off Grid information

What is the difference between Remote Off Grid vs Remote Solar Installer?

AspectRemote Off GridRemote Solar Installer
CredentialsBasic electrical, renewable energy knowledgeElectrical certifications, solar installation training
Work EnvironmentRemote, off-grid locations, self-sufficient setupsRemote or on-site, installing solar systems in various locations
Industry UsageRenewable energy, off-grid living, sustainable projectsRenewable energy, solar power industry, residential/commercial projects

Remote Off Grid jobs focus on designing and maintaining self-sufficient energy systems in remote locations, often requiring general renewable energy knowledge. Remote Solar Installers specialize in installing solar panels and systems, typically needing specific certifications. While both roles work within the renewable energy sector, Remote Off Grid emphasizes off-grid living solutions, whereas Remote Solar Installers concentrate on solar system deployment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote off grid technician?

To thrive as a Remote Off-Grid Technician, you need expertise in electrical systems, renewable energy technologies (like solar and wind), and general mechanical troubleshooting, often supported by relevant technical certifications or degrees. Familiarity with solar panel installation, battery storage systems, inverters, and monitoring tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-reliance, and effective communication are vital for managing challenges in isolated environments. These abilities ensure reliable system performance and safety, which are crucial for maintaining off-grid infrastructure without immediate onsite support.

What are remote off grid jobs?

Remote off grid jobs are positions that allow individuals to work from locations that are not connected to traditional utilities like electricity, water, or internet. These jobs are often performed in rural, wilderness, or isolated areas, and commonly involve roles such as writers, software developers, consultants, or any other work that can be done with minimal infrastructure. Many people choose remote off grid jobs for the opportunity to live sustainably, reduce their environmental footprint, and achieve greater independence. Reliable internet access, power solutions like solar panels, and self-motivation are typically essential for success in these roles.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in remote off grid roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote off-grid roles often encounter challenges such as limited access to resources, communication difficulties, and isolation from larger teams. Addressing these issues typically involves using satellite internet or radio for reliable communication, maintaining comprehensive checklists for equipment and supplies, and establishing regular check-ins with supervisors or colleagues. Many organizations also provide specialized training for emergency preparedness and encourage participation in virtual team-building activities to foster a sense of community.

Job description

Join our team as a Fiber Management Lead, where you'll help deliver scalable, GIS-driven solutions that power modern fiber networks. At ENTRUST Solutions Group, we're proud to be an industry leader in engineering and consulting services-helping modernize, protect, and strengthen critical infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading projects, solving complex data challenges, and building systems that directly support field and engineering operations.
We're seeking an experienced GIS and telecommunications professional with strong expertise in Esri-based platforms and fiber management systems. In this role, you'll lead the implementation and optimization of enterprise GIS solutions, overseeing everything from requirements gathering and data integration to testing, go-live, and continuous improvement. You'll ensure fiber network design data is accurately validated and integrated into platforms like ArcGIS Enterprise and Utility Network, while collaborating with engineering, construction, and operations teams to align solutions with business needs.
You'll also drive data integration, QA/QC, and system configuration efforts, including developing ETL workflows using tools such as FME, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, and Python. Your work will include optimizing GIS platforms, supporting legacy system migrations, and enabling advanced capabilities such as network tracing and spatial analysis. Additionally, you'll lead system enhancements, automation initiatives, and integrations with fiber management platforms like 3-GIS and Vetro. As a leader, you'll mentor GIS staff, support cross-functional collaboration, and help guide strategic decisions around GIS and fiber management systems to ensure scalable, reliable, and efficient solutions.
This role is designated as remote, giving you the flexibility to primarily work from home while staying actively connected to your team and projects. We value collaboration and responsiveness, so we ask our remote team members to be available when in-office presence is needed-such as for client meetings, team events, training sessions, or field-related project support.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of GIS experience, including at least 3 years in fiber or telecommunications
  • Minimum of 2 years of project management or leadership experience
  • Proficiency with Esri platforms (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise)
  • Experience with fiber management systems (e.g., 3-GIS, Vetro, Mapcom, or similar)
  • Strong SQL, database, and data integration experience
  • Experience with ETL tools (FME, Python, or ArcGIS Data Interoperability)
  • Understanding of fiber networks, OSP design, and GIS data modeling

What We Offer:
  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, and flexible work schedules.
  • This position pays between $108,200 to $141,400 annually and is an exempt position. Benefits offered include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually. Full-time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours. May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company.
