Remote Neuroimaging Data Analyst information

What is a remote neuroimaging data analyst?

A Remote Neuroimaging Data Analyst is a professional who analyzes brain imaging data, such as MRI or CT scans, from a remote location using specialized software and statistical tools. Their work involves preprocessing, quality control, and extracting meaningful information from neuroimaging datasets for research or clinical purposes. They collaborate with neuroscientists, clinicians, and research teams, often using advanced computational methods to interpret complex brain images. Working remotely allows them to access and process data from various institutions without being physically present in a lab or hospital.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote neuroimaging data analyst?

To thrive as a Remote Neuroimaging Data Analyst, you need a solid background in neuroscience, statistics, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree such as neuroscience, psychology, or biomedical engineering. Familiarity with neuroimaging software (e.g., SPM, FSL, AFNI), programming languages like Python or MATLAB, and experience with data analysis tools are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication are key soft skills for interpreting complex data and collaborating with research teams remotely. These skills ensure accurate analysis, meaningful scientific insights, and effective teamwork in distributed research environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote neuroimaging data analysts, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Neuroimaging Data Analysts often encounter challenges such as managing large and complex datasets, ensuring data security and privacy, and maintaining clear communication with multidisciplinary teams. Working remotely can add complexity to collaboration, so utilizing reliable project management tools and regularly scheduled virtual meetings is essential. Staying updated on the latest neuroimaging software and analysis techniques, as well as adhering to strict data governance protocols, can help overcome these hurdles and ensure high-quality results.

What is the difference between Remote Neuroimaging Data Analyst vs Remote MRI Data Technician?

AspectRemote Neuroimaging Data Analyst
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Neuroscience, Psychology, or related fields; experience with neuroimaging software
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, analyzing neuroimaging data, creating reports, and interpreting results
Employer & IndustryResearch institutions, healthcare, biotech companies, universities
Common TasksData processing, statistical analysis, report writing, data visualization

While both roles involve neuroimaging, the Remote Neuroimaging Data Analyst focuses on analyzing and interpreting neuroimaging data remotely, whereas the Remote MRI Data Technician typically handles data acquisition and equipment operation on-site. The analyst role emphasizes data analysis skills and software proficiency, making it more research and report-oriented, while the technician role is more technical and equipment-focused.

Job description

Referral Eligible

Zapata Technology is hiring a Software / Data Engineer to own and modernize a mission-critical data ecosystem. This is not a “run the pipeline” role — this is a build the next generation data platform role. You’ll take an environment currently powered by custom ASP.NET apps, Postgres stored procedures, and legacy VBA scripts and architect the transition to modern, scalable ETL and orchestration frameworks like Apache NiFi and Airflow. If you enjoy untangling complex data systems, designing clean pipelines, and turning “it works but no one knows how” into “it’s automated, documented, and scalable” — this role is for you.

100% Remote

What You’ll Actually Do (Job Functions)

  • Own the design and evolution of our ETL and data pipeline architecture
  • Replace fragile VBA and ad-hoc scripts with robust, testable data workflows
  • Design high-performance Postgres data models, queries, and stored procedures
  • Build ingestion and transformation services using Python, ASP.NET, and SQL
  • Lead the migration from custom ETL processes to modern tools (NiFi, Airflow)
  • Create data pipelines that power analytics, reporting, and operational systems
  • Improve data quality, observability, and governance across the platform
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate messy requirements into clean data solutions
  • Document and automate everything so the system scales beyond any one person

The Environment Today

  • Custom ASP.NET data ingestion apps
  • Heavy Postgres logic and stored procedures
  • Legacy VBA automation that needs to be retired
  • Growing need for cloud migration and modern orchestration

The Environment You’ll Help Build

  • Python-driven pipelines
  • Apache NiFi / Airflow orchestration
  • Clean Postgres architecture
  • AWS-based data infrastructure
  • Scalable, observable ETL workflows

What We’re Looking For (Job Requirements)

  • Strong experience building ETL/data pipelines without relying solely on ETL tools
  • Deep SQL and Postgres performance tuning experience
  • Experience writing data services in Python, C#, or ASP.NET
  • Experience modernizing legacy data environments
  • Comfort owning architecture decisions and working independently
  • Experience migrating systems to AWS
  • Familiarity with Spark, Databricks, or distributed processing is a plus
  • Shell scripting and automation experience
  • Experience working in Agile teams
  • 4+ years of software or data engineering experience
  • Strong SQL and database design background
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL processes

Why Engineers Like This Role

  • You get real ownership of architecture decisions
  • You are hired to modernize, not maintain
  • High impact, visible work that affects the entire organization
  • Freedom to introduce modern tooling and best practices
  • Remote flexibility with a team that values autonomy
  • A rare opportunity to rebuild a data platform the right way
