Remote Network Operations Center Noc Engineer information

What is a Remote Network Operations Center NOC engineer?

Remote Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineers are IT professionals responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting an organization's network infrastructure from a remote location. They use specialized tools to detect network issues, respond to outages, and ensure systems run efficiently and securely. NOC Engineers often work in shifts to provide 24/7 coverage, addressing incidents as they arise and escalating problems when necessary. Their role is crucial in minimizing downtime and maintaining optimal network performance for businesses.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Network Operations Center NOC engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer, you need a solid understanding of networking protocols, troubleshooting, and systems administration, often supported by a degree in IT or related certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA. Familiarity with network monitoring tools (such as SolarWinds or Nagios), ticketing systems, and remote management platforms is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are crucial for quickly identifying and resolving incidents while collaborating remotely with teams. These skills ensure network reliability, fast incident response, and smooth operations for organizations that rely on uninterrupted connectivity.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Network Operations Center NOC engineers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote NOC Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex network issues without physical access to hardware, managing multiple incidents simultaneously, and ensuring clear communication across time zones. To manage these, it's important to develop strong diagnostic and documentation skills, stay organized with incident tracking tools, and maintain proactive communication with on-site teams and clients. Regular training on new technologies and network monitoring tools also helps NOC Engineers adapt quickly to evolving network environments.

What is the difference between Remote Network Operations Center Noc Engineer vs Remote Network Support Specialist?

What You'll Do:

In this role, you'll execute the systems engineering lifecycle supporting sensor transport and C2ISR mission capabilities across SATCOM, terrestrial, and hybrid network environments. You'll serve as a technical leader responsible for requirements decomposition, system integration, verification and validation (V&V), fielding, and lifecycle sustainment while partnering with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient, and mission-ready transport solutions.

  • Execute the full systems engineering lifecycle for sensor transport systems, including requirements decomposition, system design, integration, verification and validation (V&V), fielding, and operational sustainment.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage system specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), engineering documentation, and technical baselines supporting enterprise C2ISR transport architectures.
  • Engineer, integrate, and optimize SATCOM and terrestrial transport solutions, including RF terminals, gateways (RGEPS/IGEPs), IP transport, cross-domain solutions, edge computing platforms, and cloud-enabled services.
  • Lead system integration, testing, deployment, technology refresh, and modernization initiatives while ensuring performance, scalability, reliability, and mission readiness.
  • Author engineering test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria; conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and support turnkey gateway installations and Tactical Reconnaissance Kit (TRK) FMV transport path deployments.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, performance optimization, and technical assessments to resolve complex system and transport issues while collaborating with Network Operations Center (NOC) and operational support teams.
  • Develop and maintain RMF documentation, ATO evidence, STIG implementation, configuration baselines, and configuration/change management artifacts supporting cybersecurity compliance.
  • Support site activations, network cutovers, field installations, and CONUS/OCONUS deployments while ensuring successful integration into operational mission environments.
  • Collaborate with software, network, cybersecurity, and program management teams to deliver secure, compliant, and integrated enterprise transport solutions.
  • Capture operational lessons learned and engineering recommendations to continuously improve system architecture, transport performance, and future modernization efforts.

Who You Are:

You are an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong background in C2ISR transport systems, systems engineering, and mission-critical communications supporting Department of Defense or Federal Government customers. You combine technical expertise with a disciplined systems engineering approach to design, integrate, validate, and field complex transport solutions while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain the required clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Current DoD 8570/8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Six (6) to eight (8) or more years of systems engineering experience supporting C2ISR transport systems through requirements development, system design, integration, verification and validation, and operational fielding.
  • Hands-on experience integrating SATCOM, baseband systems, RF terminals, gateways, IP/MPLS transport networks, and supporting site activations, network cutovers, and operational deployments.
  • Experience developing engineering specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), test plans, test procedures, and technical documentation supporting system integration and acceptance testing.
  • Experience supporting RMF, ATO package development, STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, and formal engineering change control processes.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, systems integration, and root-cause analysis skills with experience supporting complex operational and mission-critical environments.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, or infrastructure orchestration tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Ansible) is preferred.
