What are Remote NERC jobs?

Remote NERC jobs refer to positions related to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) that can be performed from a remote location. These roles typically involve ensuring compliance with NERC standards, monitoring power grid reliability, and managing critical infrastructure security. Remote NERC professionals might work as compliance analysts, engineers, or cybersecurity experts, utilizing digital tools to fulfill their responsibilities. The flexibility of remote work allows organizations to access a wider talent pool while maintaining NERC regulatory compliance.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote NERC operators, and how can they be addressed?

Remote NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) operators often face challenges such as maintaining situational awareness across multiple power systems, managing high-stress situations during grid disturbances, and coordinating effectively with on-site personnel. To address these, operators rely on robust communication protocols, advanced monitoring tools, and regular training simulations to stay prepared for emergencies. Building strong remote teamwork and staying updated on NERC reliability standards also helps ensure a smooth operation and regulatory compliance.

What is the difference between Remote Nerc vs Remote Nerc Compliance Analyst?

Job description

Seeking for someone that will help take requirements and incorporating into business manuals. Taking the language and determining what this means for their team. Helping develop some of the business practice manuals and advising for the existing ones. Developing new practice manuals. That is phase 1. Phase 2 is what are the different use cases they should be exploring. Helping identify the different platforms and vendors and using their expertise to impartially vet that out.

Operationalizing large load PMUs.

The first phase is going to be very technical. As they put requirements around PMUs to stakeholders they will get in the weeds on questions around configuration of the things they care about. How do they want to leverage those PMUs. More technical in first phase as they are answering questions. Understanding of Power Systems, interpret how to apply PMU data to different use cases. Prototyping PMUs.

Other demanding things to better operationalize their PMUs and a bunch of work in the future.

Official Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) Operational Integration Consultant to support the deployment, integration, and operational use of synchrophasor technologies within an RTO control room environment.

This role focuses on defining and implementing operational requirements, enhancing real time situational awareness, and advising operations teams on the effective use of PMU technology and data to support stability monitoring, oscillation detection, and disturbance response.

Key responsibilities include integrating PMU data into operator workflows, developing operational use cases, supporting control-room visualizations / alarms, and ensuring alignment with NERC IBR (inverter-based resource) stability standards and Large Load Reliability guidelines.

The position requires close collaboration with operations engineering, EMS/SCADA, and OT/IT teams to ensure PMU capabilities deliver actionable, reliable operational value.

Required Skills

• 10+ years of hands-on PMU deployment and integration experience in operational environments (utility, ISO/RTO, or grid operator).

• Strong background in real-time operational applications of PMU data, including oscillation detection, disturbance identification, event analysis, and dynamic system behavior monitoring.

• Experience developing operational requirements, operator use cases, alarming thresholds, and control-room visualization concepts.

• Proficiency with PMU data quality assessment, IEEE C37.118 protocols, PDC configuration, and synchrophasor streaming performance requirements.

• Deep understanding of real-time grid phenomena such as oscillations, inertia, damping, and voltage or frequency excursions.

• Ability to translate technical PMU analytics into clear operator guidance, procedures, and training materials.

• Working knowledge of NERC IBR stability standards, model performance expectations, and emerging Large Load Reliability guidelines relevant to operation
