Job Description:
Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Director of Natural Gas Services for a REMOTE WORK role within our Utility Services team.
Orbital Engineering's Utility Services team partners with investor-owned utilities to support their electrical and natural gas engineering and operations programs.
This role involves managing the operational aspects of our Natural Gas Program for utility clients across the country. Responsibilities include tracking deliverables, creating management strategies, and monitoring contract milestones through performance reports. Key duties encompass preparing client proposals, issuing formal notices, generating billing documents, addressing contract compliance issues, staying informed about policy changes, and presenting updates to senior leadership.
The role also includes coordinating tasks, setting priorities, mentoring staff, and guiding our Departmental leadership team. This team manages employees across Orbital's nationwide natural gas engineering and operations programs. They handle engineering, calculations, inspections, designs, and operational support for natural gas projects. Additionally, staff support GIS data analysis, prepare notifications, work orders, invoices, and financial reports using enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
The ideal candidate is a high-achieving, critically thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with strong leadership, excellent written and oral communication, customer service abilities, and the skill to build and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships. Essential Functions
  • Overseeing national teams that support client natural gas programs and projects, including organizational growth goals.
  • Ownership of the Natural Gas Department's safety, operational performance, revenue, and financial performance.
  • Establish annual operating plans and growth targets aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Expand current client relationships and cultivate new ones by cross-selling engineering, consulting, and operational services.
  • Develop and implement national sales strategies through marketing materials, presentations, speaking engagements, conferences, and additional related activities.
  • Contract management responsibility for operational control of Orbital's Natural Gas programs, including monitoring and managing revenues, expenses, and liabilities.
  • Regularly coordinate and attend meetings with internal staff and contracting partner representatives to ensure proper use of agreements.
  • Deliver presentations to key decision makers, senior leadership, and clients, offering expert advice, summaries, and briefs of requested data while addressing client questions.
  • Monitor compliance with contract performance measures and reporting requirements specified in the agreement. Address performance issues and contract disputes, and issue formal notices in writing.
  • Suggest process adjustments according to the agreement requirements as necessary.
  • Generate invoicing based on the allowable recovery costs outlined in the agreement. Create sales orders to facilitate payment collection. Verify that payments are received and correctly applied to the respective accounts. Additionally, run detailed billing reports for accurate tracking.
  • Communicate with the contracting partner to resolve inconsistencies. Transfer information to the mapping group for import into the appropriate GIS system.
  • Prepare, review, and approve proposals and project estimates for new client projects.
  • Provide input and collaborate with workgroup leadership on updates and revisions to associated contracts, policies, and rates.
  • Maintain superior customer service for all clients and resolve issues as they arise; ensure timely responses to internal and external clients.
  • Travel up to 30%

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, project management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in natural gas program management, or gas utility design experience with at least five years' experience in a relevant leadership role.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.
  • Experience with analyzing data, financial reporting, data inventory management, and program auditing (e.g., Excel).
  • Ability to negotiate and develop relationships with contracting parties.
  • Proven ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks, including complex projects and competing priorities, to deliver accurate results as promised.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional work teams in the development and implementation of efficiencies.
  • The successful candidate must have exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • The ability to lead staff, complete assignments, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development and expanding the client base.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications.
  • This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.

Location Note:
This is a remote position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's location.
Salary Range:
$140,000-238,000 annually (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
