Job description

This position is Remote in Pacific Standard Time Zone. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

The Collection & Monitoring Analyst is a part of UnitedHealth Groups Enterprise Risk Intelligence team supporting open-source intelligence (OSINT) research and monitoring online threat activity related to identified Persons of Interest (POIs) and emerging risks to the organization. This role focuses on collecting, analyzing, and reporting publicly available information to help identify potential security concerns impacting employees, facilities, executives, and operations.

The analyst works under the direction of senior intelligence staff and contributes to investigations and monitoring activities by producing timely, accurate, and well-documented intelligence outputs. Strong online research skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with social media and digital platforms are essential for success in this role.

This position is full time Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.  

This will be on-the-job training, and the hours of training will be based on your schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Persons of Interest (POI) Investigation Support

  • Conduct OSINT research in support of POI-related security inquiries, using publicly available online, social media, and digital sources.
  • Collect, organize, and document relevant information associated with individuals of security concern in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist senior analysts with background research, timeline development, and activity tracking related to POIs.
  • Identify potential indicators of concerning behavior, escalation, or targeting based on online activity and open-source information.
  • Maintain clear and accurate case notes, source citations, and supporting documentation.

Online Threat Intelligence Monitoring

  • Monitor social media platforms, forums, blogs, and other online spaces for potential threats, hostile narratives, or emerging risks relevant to the organization.
  • Support ongoing monitoring of known threats, key events, or heightened risk periods by identifying and reporting relevant online indicators.
  • Assist with the detection of threatening, concerning, or suspicious online communications directed at personnel, facilities, or business operations.
  • Escalate identified risks or anomalies to senior intelligence or security personnel following defined workflows.

Intelligence Reporting & Operations Support

  • Draft concise intelligence summaries, monitoring updates, and incident support notes for internal stakeholders.
  • Support real-time or near-real-time monitoring during security events or incidents as directed.
  • Assist with triage and intake of intelligence-related requests, ensuring information is routed appropriately.
  • Follow established workflows, documentation standards, and information handling requirements.
  • Contribute to team metrics, reporting accuracy, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1 years of experience in intelligence, security, investigations, research, or a related analytical field (academic or professional).
  • Foundational understanding of OSINT principles and ethical use of publicly available information.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and online communities as information sources.
  • Written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, structured, and objective reports.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Ability to follow established processes, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in an operational environment.
  • Ability to work full time Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience related to intelligence studies, criminal justice, cybersecurity, international relations, or digital investigations.
  • Exposure to social media monitoring, online research tools, or threat-related analysis.
  • Experience working in a security operations center, monitoring function, or investigative support role.
  • Familiarity with documenting research findings and maintaining audit-ready notes.

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Reside within Pacific Standard Time Zone
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
