The Role

NetX is seeking a Systems Engineer to help maintain, improve, and scale our SaaS infrastructure. In this role, you will troubleshoot system issues, implement long-term solutions, and contribute to the reliability, performance, and security of our platform.

You'll work closely with a collaborative engineering team in a flexible environment inspired by the Shape Up methodology, where communication, ownership, and continuous improvement are highly valued.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor systems, infrastructure, and application environments.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems and software.
  • Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
  • Maintain security, backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and infrastructure tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Support cloud, containerized, and virtualized environments.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for operational support.
  • Collaborate with developers, support teams, and vendors to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for automation and proactive improvements.
  • Occasionally perform physical hardware tasks onsite at a Portland data center.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience administering Linux-based systems.
  • 3+ years of experience with application stacks such as Tomcat, Apache, or NGINX.
  • 3+ years of cloud experience, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or VMware.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Icinga, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages.
  • Solid networking knowledge including TCP/IP, OSI layers, and firewall management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Digital Asset Management (DAM) platforms.
  • Familiarity with tools and technologies such as:
    • GitLab
    • Java
    • DNS
    • FFMpeg
    • ImageMagick
    • Ghostscript
    • ExifTool
    • Jira
  • Experience working with digital media workflows or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with the Shape Up development methodology.
