Associate Scientific Director, Medical Writing

Job Overview

IQVIA Health Communications Group is seeking an experienced Associate Scientific Director, Medical Writing to help drive the development of impactful scientific and promotional medical communications. This role combines strategic leadership and hands-on content development, partnering with clients and internal stakeholders to create scientifically accurate, compelling, and compliant communications across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead scientific and promotional medical writing initiatives for pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare clients.
  • Develop communication strategies, scientific narratives, key message platforms, and content plans aligned to client objectives.
  • Create and oversee a broad range of deliverables, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress materials, advisory board content, slide decks, educational programs, training materials, and promotional assets.
  • Translate complex clinical and scientific data into clear, engaging, audience-appropriate content.
  • Serve as a trusted scientific partner to clients, providing strategic counsel and content recommendations.
  • Collaborate with account, strategy, creative, editorial, regulatory, and medical teams to ensure high-quality execution.
  • Review and refine content to ensure scientific accuracy, message consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Mentor junior writers and contribute to best practices across the medical writing function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, MSc) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience within a medical communications, healthcare advertising, medical education, or related agency environment.
  • Proven experience developing both scientific and promotional medical communications.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research, scientific literature evaluation, and data interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution in a fast-paced agency setting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working directly with pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences clients preferred.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $109,400.00 - $304,900.00.
