We’re Hiring: Underwriting Supervisor | Wholesale Mortgage

thelender, Inc. dba thelender Wholesale Mortgage is looking for an experienced Underwriting Supervisor to lead and support our underwriting teams in a fast-paced, high-volume wholesale lending environment.

This is a great opportunity for a mortgage underwriting leader who thrives on team development, operational excellence, risk management, and delivering high-quality loan decisions.

What You’ll Do

As an Underwriting Supervisor, you’ll work closely with the Underwriting Manager and oversee the daily operations of our Red and Orange underwriting teams. You’ll play a key role in ensuring productivity, quality, compliance, and exceptional service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop underwriting staff.
  • Oversee daily underwriting operations, workflow, and pipeline management.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions meet established SLA and quality standards.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex underwriting scenarios and risk decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, and Non-QM guidelines.
  • Support underwriting for Non-QM, DSCR, and Home Equity/Second Mortgage products.
  • Monitor underwriting performance, productivity, quality, and trends.
  • Analyze underwriting metrics and provide actionable insights to senior management.
  • Partner with Sales, Processing, Operations, Compliance, and other teams to improve workflows and loan quality.
  • Identify training needs and support the ongoing development of underwriting talent.
  • Review QC findings and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Stay current on investor guidelines, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
  • Help identify and implement process improvements that increase production without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Promote a customer-focused, collaborative, and high-performance culture.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in mortgage underwriting preferred.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume wholesale lending environment.

Mortgage & Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of AUS and mortgage underwriting technology.
  • Experience with Encompass LOS.
  • Strong understanding of Non-QM, DSCR, and Home Equity/Second Mortgage products.
  • In-depth knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA underwriting guidelines.
  • Familiarity with federal and state mortgage lending regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and Visio.

Additional Requirements

This position is exempt and reports to the Underwriting Manager or Regional Underwriting Manager.

The successful candidate must comply with all applicable BSA/AML requirements, regulatory requirements, investor guidelines, company policies, and mandatory compliance training.


Compensation: $125,000 plus monthly bonus of $10/file
