Job Title: Military Outreach Representative
Department: Military Outreach
Reports to: Director of Military Outreach
FLSA: Exempt
Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (extended hours when requested)
Location: Remote
Job Summary
Military Outreach Representatives are responsible for researching and selecting appropriate education fairs, conferences and Military unit visits to effectively market Columbia Southern University. The Military Outreach Representative will work directly with prospective students in the U. S. Military, Veterans and other entities, assisting them in achieving their educational goals.
Essential Job Tasks (Additional duties may be assigned)
  • Research, select, plan and attend appropriate education fairs/conferences.
  • Build and maintain relationships with educational staff/students at military installations and Learning Partners.
  • Travel extensively (75 days per year) including some weekends and may include holidays.
  • Contact Learning Partners to provide information and support; visit Learning Partners as time allows.
  • Obtain referrals from students and prospects to augment paid advertising and enhance performance results; prudent use of CSU funds while engaged in CSU sanctioned events and activities.
  • Seek out prospective students in new markets and provide leads generated from conferences to appropriate team for follow-up.
  • Plan calendar and share all dates with appropriate parties; secure additional representatives as needed for larger shows.
  • Execute all travel arrangements necessary; maintain and reconcile credit card expense receipts and reports.
  • Complete exhibition kits for visits or events and gather materials needed to be shipped.
  • Increase percentage of enrollments and starts from leads through training, experience, and follow-up with prospects through correspondence, visits and routine phone conversations by providing assistance and completion of the application process.
  • Expected to come onsite as directed by leadership.
  • Provide advisement assistance to CSU students while adhering to CSU policies and standards.
  • Promotes, maintains and enhances workplace culture within Military Outreach department and the university.

Knowledge
  • Military Education Benefits - Possess knowledge of Military education benefits, Veteran’s education benefits, and a clear understanding of rules and regulations for base access and appropriate areas for military outreach representatives to visit Military installations.
Skills
  • Active Listening - Utilize effective telephonic skills to gain full understanding of what others are saying, taking time to understand the points made, and ask questions as appropriate.
  • Interpersonal Skills - Communicate and interact with leads, applicants, students, and inactive students to effectively build solid relationships to generate enrollments, networks, and referrals.
  • Accountability - Adhere to the department’s ABC model by ensuring that the appropriate A level priorities are completed in the office.
  • Time Management - Manage time appropriately while on the road to ensure that travel time is maximized and that all efforts align with the department’s ABC model.

  • Written Comprehension - Develop solid plans that address every opportunity to reach service members, spouses, retirees, and veterans.

Education amp; Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; and one to two years related experience and/or training. Must possess knowledge of Military education benefits, Veteran’s education benefits and a clear understanding of rules and regulations for base access and appropriate areas for Military Outreach Representatives to visit on Military installations.
  • Ability to be bonded and insured.
  • Prior military experience with the Army is necessary for this position and strongly preferred.
Equipment Used
  • Office equipment including computers, telephones, printers, faxes, and copiers.
  • Software uses include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.
  • It is required to have reliable internet for this position.

Remote with self-designed office with reliable internet. Office equipment furnished. When at headquarters, the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment will change drastically while traveling to events and will require extended periods of standing, walking, and the ability to assemble and disassemble displays at conferences, events, etc. The employee must regularly lift and/or transport up to 50 pounds. The noise level is generally moderate.
