Job Description
The Enterprise Systems and Enabling Technologies (ESET) department within the Division of IT at Virginia Tech is working to ensure that faculty, staff, and students at the university have access to robust tools and environments to empower innovation and collaboration at all levels. To support this mission, ESET is seeking a Cloud Systems Administrator II to join the Enterprise Cloud and AI Platforms (ECAP) team. This position assists with the planning, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, and continuous improvement of cloud and SaaS services, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, university email services, and approved enterprise cloud platforms. Working in collaboration with senior technical staff, service owners, and distributed IT partners, the position supports cloud adoption, operational reliability, security and compliance controls, SaaS integration workflows, and user guidance for enterprise cloud services.

ECAP directly manages the following services for Virginia Tech
• University Email Services (Exchange Online and Gmail)
• VT Collaborative Software as a Service (SaaS) Environments (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Slack)
• Cloud Accounts and Services (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure)
• Secure Virtual Environments (Hyper-V virtual machines)
• VT Active Directory Services
Responsibilities Include:
• Utilize PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power BI, GAM, and related technologies to administer and report on enterprise cloud services, support operational workflows, and assist departments with approved Microsoft 365 integrations and governance processes.
• Support enterprise application governance activities, including review, onboarding, administration, and lifecycle management of approved SaaS applications.
• Assist in monitoring, managing, and maintaining the health and security of VT collaborative SaaS environments
• Evaluate and assist with the deployment of new applications and features within the VT collaborative SaaS environments within established standards, documented procedures, and guidance from senior staff or service owners.
• Assist in the configuration and administration of SaaS security, compliance, governance, and identity controls to protect university services, applications, data, and endpoints.
• Support administrative eDiscovery workflows, including approved data collection activities conducted under established procedures.
• Help create and maintain up-to-date documentation for knowledge transfer related to all service responsibilities
• Assist in providing technical guidance and documentation to support training efforts and the development of knowledge base articles related to ECAP services
• Consult with users, departments, and IT partners on third-party email solutions, SaaS app integrations, and other workflows critical to their business operations
• Assist in the diagnosis, troubleshooting , and support of incidents related to VT collaborative SaaS environments and university email
• Manage the implementation and tracking of assigned sprint goals
• Follow all established university and departmental policies and procedures

Required Qualifications
• Master's degree, or a combination of education, training, and progressive experience that equates to a Master's degree.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, enterprise email systems, and supporting identity, security, and collaboration technologies.
• Ability to utilize PowerShell or similar scripting technologies to administer enterprise cloud and SaaS services.
• Experience administering and supporting enterprise email and collaboration platforms, including Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
• Experience in preparing reports/documents and presenting information
• Ability to complete assigned technical tasks with appropriate guidance, prioritize routine operational work, and collaborate effectively as part of a technical team.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience administering Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Microsoft Entra ID, SharePoint Online, Teams, and related technologies.
• Experience in handling sensitive data and performing confidential administrative actions
• Experience utilizing PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power BI, Google Apps Manager (GAM), and APIs to administer enterprise cloud and SaaS services.
• Experience with third-party cloud solutions, such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure
• Experience with enterprise application governance, SaaS integrations, identity management, or access governance processes.
• Experience in providing security guidance or training to both technical personnel and end-users
• Relevant professional certifications, such as certifications working towards Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or Google Workspace Administrator certification
