Digital CommunicationsPosition Title:Marketing StrategistJob Family Group: Professional StaffJob Description Summary:The Marketing Strategist is a key collaborator in the Office of Communications at KU Medical Center, developing and supporting plans to advance academic, research and outreach goals. The strategist moves fluidly between analysis, planning and creative development, working closely with clients and colleagues to deliver results that meet strategic objectives, timelines, budgets and brand standards. The position leads the development and execution of digital advertising campaigns and brings creativity and strategic vision to support projects extending across social media, email marketing, web and other media. This position reports to the Associate Director of Digital Communications.Job Description:Job Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate the planning and delivery of marketing campaigns, including creating project plans, supporting content development through copywriting and coordination of graphic design resources and managing campaign execution in platforms such as Meta, LinkedIn and Google Ads.
  • Coordinate meetings, project timelines and approval workflows for assigned projects.
  • Manage budgets funded by departmental clients; oversees the spend-down of funds and provides timely documentation for reconciliation.
  • Engage with clients and communications and marketing colleagues to fully understand needs and goals and to develop cross-platform marketing strategies that ensure cohesive and effective performance across email, organic social, web, print and other tactics.
  • Develop key insights about target audiences, conducts market research and consult with clients about audience segmentation and list management.
  • Monitor campaign performance and report on KPIs to evaluate effectiveness and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Evaluate new trends and technical platform features to ensure that the medical center is following best practices.
  • Ensure digital marketing content complies with institutional accessibility standards and content best practices.
  • Support the Office of Communications and One KU initiatives, assists with additional projects as needed.

Work Environment:

  • This is a hybrid position that requires a combination of onsite work at our Kansas City campus and remote work.
  • The anticipated hiring range for this position is $61,000 - $65,000

Required Qualifications

Education:High School diploma or GED equivalent

Work Experience:

  • Three (3) years of full-time professional experience with demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing strategies and analyzing marketing campaign performance.
  • One (1) year of experience managing paid digital advertising campaigns through platforms such as Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, or LinkedIn Campaign Manager.
  • Experience developing marketing assets, including writing effective advertising, web or social copy.
  • Experience using an email marketing platform (such as Emma, MailChimp or Constant Contact) to distribute and evaluate marketing communications.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously and managing timelines, stakeholders and deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, design, marketing or a related area of study.

Work Experience:

  • Five (5) years of full-time professional experience in marketing, including collaborating with colleagues and/or clients, optimizing campaigns based on KPIs and reporting on outcomes.
  • Experience using audience data, market research or campaign analytics to inform marketing recommendations.
  • Experience creating marketing strategies for a variety of projects, such as print and digital advertising, email marketing, multimedia content, etc., with proven conceptual and creative abilities.
  • One (1) year of experience developing marketing campaign plans, project timelines and budgets.
  • One (1) year of experience evaluating campaign performance using platform analytics or reporting tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of content best practices and digital accessibility standards.
  • Experience with CRM principles and tools.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, with demonstrated ability to follow brand standards.
  • Experience working with creative teams (e.g., graphic design, photo, video).
  • Digital marketing certificate (e.g., Google Ads or Meta/Facebook).
  • Experience in health care or higher education settings.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
