Position Status: Full-time, STA - Short Term Assignment (4 months) 
Salary Level:
  • US: The starting annual salary for this role will range from USD $76,800 to USD $91,200, commensurate with professional experience and internal equity.
  • Other Countries: Salaries will be benchmarked against local market rates and commensurate with professional experience and internal equity.

    Resource Development (RD) works to raise private funds, cultivating and maintaining relationships with private donors; define the agency's brand, raising our public profile and sharing stories about our work by engaging with the media, the public, and our supporters; and producing a wide range of online and offline communications.     In support of that mission, the Strategic Partnerships and Philanthropy team develops and executes new cross-team strategies and initiatives to support increased revenue from top donors and prospects. The team manages Mercy Corps' relationships with major corporate, foundation and individual donors and influencers with a focus on donors and influencers who give across more than one traditional fundraising channel, raising strategically restricted funds, unrestricted funds, and elevating Mercy Corps' brand profile. We set bold cross-team strategies, develop and manage relationships with key partners, and advance Mercy Corps' mission through strategic partnerships and philanthropy. The team also manages Mercy Corps' engagement with Big Bets, and leads our climate fundraising campaign, Climate: Possible.  

    The Position  
    The Strategic Partnerships and Philanthropy Deputy Director is responsible for supporting private fundraising and partnership development in support of Mercy Corps' strategic priorities. The Deputy Director will support the Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships; Senior Director, Foundation Partnerships; and Directors and Deputies from CFT in advancing strategic partnerships with top donors, prospects, and influencers. The successful candidate will have relationship management experience, an understanding of Mercy Corps programming and trends in philanthropy, strong written and verbal communications, and experience in project management.  

    Essential Responsibilities  

    PRIVATE FUNDRAISING  
    • Provide business development, stewardship, and communications support to a range of CFT donors and prospects, aligned to P2P priorities. 
    • Collaborate with program, technical and innovation teams to match key program needs with potential funders. 
    • Write/edit concepts, proposals, reports, pitch decks, talking points, updates and stewardship materials. 
    • Support development and implementation of personalized cultivation and stewardship plans for key partnerships.  
    • Support Rebrand-related events and convenings, Match Pool fundraising requests, benefits and other required content, etc.  
    • Support knowledge management by maintaining donor and prospect records in NXT (CRM), SharePoint, etc. ensuring institutional knowledge is captured, shared and accessible across the team. 

    INTERNAL COORDINATION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT 

    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders including program representatives and leadership, TEQ, AMT and other stakeholders to ensure donor engagement strategies can be effectively implemented.  
    • Contribute to planning and execution of Monthly CFT meetings, and other internal meetings, including agenda development, team engagement, and follow-up on action items. 
    • Act as primary PG&E liaison with support from TEQ, MCV, AMT and finance in the management of the Innovation Fund grants and provide any needed support to the merging of the Innovation Fund and the Venture Lab under the Innovation Catalyst.  

    PROFILE RAISING, INFLUENCE & REPRESENTATION 

    • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of strategic priorities and relevant technical areas and key partnerships in order to represent the organization and priority programming to internal and external stakeholders.  
    • Effectively represent Mercy Corps in donor meetings, communications and at events. 
    • Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and other content to support leadership external representation. 
    • Support online and other profile-raising activities related to the rebrand, donor cultivation and stewardship. 

    SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Actively learns about safeguarding and integrates it into their work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations related to their area of work. 
    • Practices the values of Mercy Corps including respecting the dignity and well-being of participants and fellow team members. 
    • Encourages openness and communication in their team; encourages team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options.

    Accountability 
    Reports Directly To: Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships 
    Works Directly With: VP Strategic Partnerships, Senior Director of Foundation Partnerships, Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships, CFT Directors and Deputies, CFT support teams, key stakeholders in PG&E, TEQ, program teams and leadership in over 30 countries. 
    Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders 
    Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.  

    Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills 

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. 
    • 5+ years increasingly responsible work in partnerships and fundraising. 
    • Successful track record managing donor relationships and securing donations in support of social impact work. 
    • Understanding of donor audience motivations, donor cultivation cycle, and decision-making processes. 
    • Ability to work in and across teams to develop and execute strategy for successful partnership experience and engagement. 
    • Proven ability to manage projects and competing priorities. 
    • Strong oral and written communications skills 
    • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills. 
    • Understanding of climate programming, international aid and development strongly preferred

    Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions 
    This is a remote position based in the selected candidate's country of permanent residence and may require up to 5% international travel to support country programs, which may include travel to insecure locations where freedom of movement is limited and areas where amenities are limited.  Housing for this role is in individual housing, and staff will have access to good medical services and the living situation is of a high standard.
