What is a remote medical simulation specialist?

A Remote Medical Simulation specialist is a professional who designs, operates, or facilitates medical training scenarios using simulation technology, often from a remote location. These simulations help healthcare providers practice and improve their clinical skills in a realistic, virtual environment. Specialists may use software platforms, mannequins, or virtual reality tools to replicate medical situations, enabling learners to gain hands-on experience without risking patient safety. Remote medical simulation has become increasingly important for continuing education, especially when in-person training is limited.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote medical simulation?

To thrive in Remote Medical Simulation, you need a solid background in healthcare, clinical education, or simulation technology, often supported by relevant degrees or certifications such as Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). Familiarity with medical simulation software, audiovisual platforms, and remote collaboration tools is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for engaging learners and managing technical challenges remotely. These competencies ensure effective and realistic simulation experiences, which are vital for training healthcare professionals in diverse and distributed settings.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in remote medical simulation roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote medical simulation often encounter challenges such as ensuring seamless communication with participants, managing technical difficulties, and maintaining engagement during virtual scenarios. Overcoming these challenges requires strong organizational skills, proficiency with simulation software, and the ability to troubleshoot common tech issues. Regularly scheduled team meetings, clear instructional materials, and ongoing training help foster collaboration and smooth workflow. Additionally, adaptability and proactive problem-solving are key to providing effective and realistic simulation experiences remotely.

What is the difference between Remote Medical Simulation vs Remote Medical Educator?

AspectRemote Medical SimulationRemote Medical Educator
CredentialsMedical or healthcare certifications, simulation trainingMedical degrees, teaching certifications
Work EnvironmentSimulation labs, virtual platformsOnline classrooms, webinars
Industry UsageHealthcare training, patient safetyMedical education, professional development
Primary FocusCreating realistic medical scenarios for trainingTeaching medical knowledge and skills remotely

Remote Medical Simulation involves designing and implementing realistic medical scenarios for training healthcare professionals, often using virtual or physical simulation tools. In contrast, Remote Medical Educator focuses on delivering medical education and training through online platforms. While both roles require medical knowledge, Remote Medical Simulation emphasizes scenario creation and simulation technology, whereas Remote Medical Educator centers on teaching and curriculum delivery.

Job description

About Us

Eden is pioneering sustainable natural resource recovery by using electricity to enhance subsurface permeability. Our Electrical Reservoir Stimulation technology offers a precise, water-efficient alternative to traditional hydraulic fracturing, reducing environmental risks while maximizing resource extraction.

Backed by leading public and private institutions, we have raised ~$24M, including $14M in dilutive capital from industry leaders such as Anglo American and Helmerich & Payne, along with climate-focused investors like the Grantham Foundation. Additionally, we have secured $10M in non-dilutive funding, primarily through four DOE ARPA-E grants that support our R&D in frontier industries.

Headquartered in Somerville, MA, and with an office in Houston, TX, Eden's team of 16 experts specializes in geophysics, geochemistry, high-voltage engineering, and subsurface tool design. We are actively demonstrating our next-generation permeability enhancement technology across diverse geologies worldwide, collaborating with industry leaders in geothermal energy, geologic hydrogen, carbon storage, and mining to redefine resource recovery for a carbon-neutral future.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for field tests, in cooperation with our supportive technical partners.

Your Impact

  • Own design and development of nextgeneration pulsed power systems (Marx or related fast highvoltage architectures) delivering repeatable, highenergy micro to millisecond pulses.
  • Architect modular, fielddeployable generator stacks (charging, storage, switching, pulseforming, measurement, protection) for reliability, waveform fidelity, and rugged field operation.
  • Run trade studies on switching topologies (spark gap, solidstate, hybrid), insulation schemes, and energy delivery to balance rise time, repetition rate, efficiency, serviceability, and cost.
  • Integrate highspeed diagnostics, sensing, and controls to monitor pulse shape, energy, and component health; iterate from lab and pilot data.
  • Collaborate with geoscience teammates to connect pulse parameters with permeability gains and fracture geometry outcomes.
  • Draft technical reports, funding proposals, stakeholder updates, and safety / operations documentation.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous HV/EHS protocols (arc flash, interlocks, grounding, remote operation).
  • Support field mobilizations: configure, commission, operate, and troubleshoot systems (travel ~10-25%).

Requirements

About You

  • PhD or Master's (with equivalent depth) in Electrical / Pulsed Power / Power Electronics / HighVoltage Engineering (or closely related).
  • 5+ years designing, building, and testing highvoltage pulsed power systems (e.g., Marx generators, pulseforming networks, solidstate switch stacks) from concept to hardware integration.
  • Strong command of: fast switching (spark gap, solidstate, or hybrid), capacitor energy storage, insulation coordination, pulse diagnostics (dV/dt, dI/dt, impedance matching), and protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound technical/economic decisions with incomplete data under time pressure.
  • Experience creating and enforcing safety practices for highvoltage / highenergy lab or field environments.
  • Collaborative, lowego communicator comfortable working across hardware, controls, and geoscience domains.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Field deployment of ruggedized HV or pulsed power hardware (geothermal, mining, defense test, plasma, or similar).
  • Knowledge of plasma channel formation, rock fracture mechanics, or electromechanical shock phenomena.
  • Modeling / simulation (SPICE, EMTP, COMSOL multiphysics, electrothermal or plasma modules).

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, 401k
  • Vacation - Federal holidays off, Thanksgiving holidays, Christmas and New Year, 15 additional workdays per year (3-weeks) vacation time
  • Sick days, bereavement time
