Technical Writer/Editor III

DirectViz Solutions (DVS) is seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer/Editor III to support a NAVSEA cybersecurity engineering environment supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) and NSWCDD Dam Neck Activity (DNA). This position supports mission-critical cybersecurity, systems engineering, Risk Management Framework (RMF), fleet modernization, and technical engineering initiatives across Navy and Department of Defense programs.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing, editing, and maintaining highly technical documentation in support of engineering, cybersecurity, IT, systems integration, testing, and operational programs within a DoD environment.
Primary Function
The Technical Writer/Editor III will play a critical role in ensuring clear, accurate, and concise technical documentation across multiple departments including Engineering, Cybersecurity, Project Management, Operations, and Production. This role involves gathering, analyzing, organizing, and translating complex technical information into user-friendly documentation that meets Government, NAVSEA, and DoD standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create, edit, review, and maintain technical documentation including:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • User manuals
    • Technical specifications
    • Engineering documentation
    • Reports and white papers
    • Test procedures and plans
    • Installation and operational manuals
    • Configuration management documentation
    • Cybersecurity and RMF documentation
  • Translate complex engineering and cybersecurity concepts into clear, concise, and understandable documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, cybersecurity personnel, project managers, and technical SMEs to gather information and develop accurate documentation
  • Support documentation efforts related to:
    • Cybersecurity engineering
    • RMF processes
    • Systems architecture
    • Test and evaluation activities
    • Fleet modernization
    • Configuration management
    • Installation activities
    • Technical change documentation
  • Apply communication and interviewing skills to collect information from internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct technical research on engineering, cybersecurity, and functional subject matter areas to support documentation efforts
  • Develop and maintain documentation repositories and content directories ensuring:
    • Version control
    • Accessibility
    • Accuracy
    • Compliance with Government standards
  • Ensure documentation complies with NAVSEA, DoD, and organizational formatting and quality standards
  • Review documentation for grammar, clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, meeting minutes, engineering documentation, risk assessments, and project deliverables
  • Support development of technical documentation associated with cybersecurity engineering, testing, and systems lifecycle management activities outlined within the PWS
  • Identify and implement documentation best practices to improve efficiency, usability, and standardization
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback to continuously improve documentation quality
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of contract requirements

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Associate's Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance required
Experience:
  • Experience writing and editing technical documentation within DoD, Navy, or Federal environments
  • Strong understanding of technical writing principles, document lifecycle management, and version control
  • Experience supporting engineering, cybersecurity, IT, systems integration, or software development programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced technical environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Experience organizing and maintaining large technical document libraries

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior NAVSEA or Navy program experience
  • Familiarity with:
    • Risk Management Framework (RMF)
    • Cybersecurity documentation
    • NIST standards

Work Environment
This position may support both Government and contractor facilities in the Virginia Beach/Dam Neck area in support of NSWCDD cybersecurity engineering operations
