Job description

Summary of Responsibilities:

At ATC, we believe strong communities and a reliable electric grid go hand in hand. As a Public Engagement Program Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in helping people understand how transmission infrastructure supports economic growth, reliability, and the energy future of the communities we serve.
This is more than a communications role. It's an opportunity to influence public understanding, build stakeholder trust, and help advance critical infrastructure projects that power homes, businesses, and communities across our region.
ATC embraces flexibility in our work and our workplace. We trust our employees to get work done where and when it makes sense, depending on the schedule for the day and the needs of the business. However, this role is not 100% remote and would require relocation to Wisconsin.

Essential Responsibilities:

What You'll Do

As ATC's Public Engagement Program Manager, you'll lead integrated communication and stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen ATC's reputation, establish social media followership and engagement, support transmission infrastructure initiatives, and foster meaningful dialogue with diverse audiences.

Lead public engagement strategy

  • Develop, enhance and execute comprehensive public engagement programs aligned with ATC's business priorities and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Create communication strategies that support project development, approvals, construction, and long-term stakeholder relationships.
  • Help communities understand the value of transmission infrastructure investments and their role in maintaining a reliable electric grid.

Drive digital communications excellence

  • Oversee and optimize ATC's digital communications ecosystem, including websites, social media platforms, and digital engagement channels.
  • Develop integrated digital campaigns that increase stakeholder awareness and engagement.
  • Ensure communication channels meet accessibility standards and deliver exceptional user experiences.

Create compelling content

  • Develop strategic content that informs, educates, and inspires diverse audiences.
  • Translate complex technical, regulatory, and industry topics into clear, engaging messages.
  • Lead editorial planning and content development across multiple platforms, including articles, videos, infographics, presentations, and stakeholder-facing materials.

Strengthen stakeholder relationships

  • Support engagement efforts with communities, customers, policymakers, regulators, industry organizations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop communication programs that enhance transparency and trust.
  • Assist with issue management communications and reputation-building initiatives.

Measure impact and drive improvement

  • Use analytics, engagement data, and performance metrics to evaluate communication effectiveness.
  • Build dashboards, reporting frameworks, and scorecards to guide decision-making.
  • Continuously improve strategies based on measurable results and audience insights.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a collaborative communications professional who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution and enjoys building relationships as much as creating impactful content.

  • Experience developing and executing digital communication strategies
  • Strong content creation, storytelling, and editorial planning expertise
  • Experience managing website content strategy, and digital platforms
  • Experience, including demonstrated success, establishing a social media strategy, followership, and engagement
  • A track record of communicating complex information in clear and engaging ways
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, community relations, or public affairs experience
  • Experience using communication metrics and analytics to inform strategy
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, Political Science, Public Affairs, or a related field.

The Impact You'll Make

Success in this role means more than delivering communications. It means helping communities understand the importance of energy infrastructure, supporting successful project outcomes, strengthening stakeholder trust, and advancing ATC's mission through transparent, data-driven, and meaningful engagement.

If you're passionate about strategic communications, relationship building, digital engagement, and making a lasting impact on the future of energy, we encourage you to apply.

Join ATC and help connect communities to a stronger energy future.

The targeted base pay for this position is $128,400 to $149,800 annually.* Base pay is one component of our comprehensive total rewards package which includes an annual incentive bonus, employer-sponsored pension plan, 401(k) match, HSA contribution, life & disability insurance, health care benefits, generous time off plans, flexible work arrangements, and much more.
