Job description

Overview
Please note that this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid.
Nisga'a CIOPS delivers cleared professionals to support civilian and DoD customers worldwide across intelligence support, cyber/defensive cyber operations, IT O&M, infrastructure modernization, training, and logistics.
Summary:
The Senior Engineer (Mechanical) provides mechanical engineering support to DOJ/BOP facilities stakeholders by performing technical analyses, document reviews, and engineering support for mechanical and HVAC systems. This role develops recommendations, drafts technical inputs, and supports reviews of mechanical deliverables to enable Government decision-making. The position is advisory and does not approve designs, certify compliance on behalf of the Government, or exercise Government authority.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Review mechanical/HVAC design documents, calculations, and submittals for completeness, constructability, and alignment with Government requirements; provide written comments and recommended resolutions.
  • Support facility condition assessments by evaluating mechanical systems documentation, identifying deficiencies, and drafting recommended corrective actions.
  • Perform technical research and analysis related to HVAC performance, ventilation, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality; document findings for Government consideration.
  • Develop and/or review equipment schedules, sequence of operations narratives, and engineering options analyses to support Government evaluation.
  • Draft technical inputs for Statements of Work, performance requirements, acceptance criteria, and evaluation factors for Government review and approval.
  • Coordinate with architectural and other engineering disciplines to identify interfaces (e.g., power, controls, space constraints) and integration issues.
  • Support commissioning and closeout documentation reviews (as applicable), including verification checklists and deficiency tracking.
  • Prepare technical briefings, decision-support matrices, and executive summaries for Government stakeholders.

Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC) and engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear technical documentation, comment matrices, and decision-support analyses.
  • Proficiency with common tools (e.g., MS Office; familiarity with energy modeling or commissioning workflows is a plus).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have either an RA or PE certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible mechanical/HVAC engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOJ/BOP suitability, background investigation, and facility access as required.
  • Primarily remote work. Occasional travel may be required to DOJ/BOP sites and/or meetings.
  • May require participation in virtual design reviews and time-sensitive technical comment cycles.
  • Work Environment and Travel:
    • Primarily remote work. Occasional travel may be required to DOJ/BOP sites and/or meetings.
    • May require participation in virtual design reviews and time-sensitive technical comment cycles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Federal facilities projects (planning, design, renovation, sustainment) strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience with secure / correctional / justice-sector facilities.
  • Experience supporting design reviews, commissioning, or facilities O&M transition activities.
