Technical Services Sales Manager – Metals & Automation
Location: Remote – Roanoke, VA preferred
Territory: North America
Travel: Up to 50% domestic & international
Salary: $175,000–$200,000

Position Overview
Our client, a global provider of industrial electrical and automation solutions, is seeking a Technical Services Sales Manager to develop new business throughout the North American steel industry.
This position will sell technical services and automation solutions supporting flat-rolled steel production, rolling mills, crane systems, and other large industrial equipment. The successful candidate will combine an engineering background with established steel-industry sales experience and the ability to develop new territories and close complex projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new territories and technical service opportunities throughout North America.
  • Build relationships with engineering, operations, maintenance, procurement, and executive decision-makers at steel manufacturers.
  • Sell electrical, drive, control, and automation solutions supporting flat products, rolling processes, and large industrial equipment.
  • Develop strategic account plans, project pursuit strategies, and 18-month sales forecasts.
  • Identify customer needs and coordinate with Engineering and Service teams to develop solutions.
  • Review technical specifications and prepare commercial and technical proposals.
  • Lead customer presentations, proposal reviews, negotiations, and closing activities.
  • Track competitors, market conditions, and emerging customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, proposals, contracts, and sales reports.
  • Represent the company at customer meetings, conferences, and industry trade shows.
  • Travel to customer facilities in support of sales opportunities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of technical sales, business development, application engineering, or technical client-service experience.
  • Direct experience selling products, systems, or services to steel manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of steel manufacturing, flat-rolled products, and rolling processes.
  • Success managing annual order budgets of $8 million–$12 million.
  • Experience closing technical projects or service contracts exceeding $2-3 million.
  • Electrical & industrial automation experience, including drives, controls, or related systems.
  • Experience developing new accounts, territories, and sales opportunities.
  • Ability to review specifications and develop commercial and technical proposals.
  • Experience with industrial procurement, contract negotiations, and complex project sales.
  • Demonstrated success meeting annual sales or order targets.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
  • Ability to work remotely and travel up to 50%.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Crane automation or large material-handling equipment experience.
  • Existing relationships with steel producers and purchasing influencers.
  • Experience selling drive, control, and automation systems.
  • Experience developing specifications, proposals, and contracts for multimillion-dollar industrial projects.
