What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote litigation funding roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote litigation funding often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with clients and legal teams across different time zones, ensuring the secure handling of sensitive case information, and staying updated on case progress from a distance. To address these challenges, it's important to establish clear communication protocols, use secure document management systems, and schedule regular check-ins. Building strong relationships with both attorneys and clients, even remotely, helps ensure smooth collaboration and successful case outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote litigation funding, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Litigation Funding, you need a strong background in finance, legal analysis, and risk assessment, often supported by a degree in law, finance, or business. Familiarity with case management software, financial modeling tools, and secure digital communication platforms is essential. Exceptional negotiation, analytical thinking, and relationship-building skills set top professionals apart in this field. These skills are crucial to accurately evaluate cases, manage investments remotely, and maintain effective client and partner relationships for successful funding outcomes.

What is remote litigation funding?

Remote litigation funding is a financial service that provides funds to plaintiffs or law firms to cover legal costs and expenses in exchange for a portion of any settlement or award. The process is managed online or remotely, allowing applicants to submit documentation and communicate with funders without face-to-face meetings. This can help individuals or firms pursue legal claims they might not otherwise afford, while the funder assumes the risk if the case is lost. Remote litigation funding has become increasingly popular due to advancements in digital communication and the need for convenient, accessible funding options.

Job description

Overview

VytlOne - Assistant General Counsel - PBM- Remote

The Assistant General Counsel is VytlOne's primary legal authority on pharmacy benefit management matters. This attorney operates as a trusted business partner to executive leadership, not a back-office support function, and has real authority to shape how VytlOne grows, contracts, and navigates the rapidly evolving PBM regulatory environment. The AGC will partner with business leaders on contracting, regulatory matters, and other legal needs in a growing, entrepreneurial healthcare company. This role primarily serves the PBM business unit, which serves self-funded group health plans, and provides backup legal support for other business units, corporate matters, and other duties as assigned. The right candidate will thrive in an environment that rewards judgment, initiative, and the ability to move fast without sacrificing rigor.

WHY THIS ROLE

VytlOne is a fast-growing, entrepreneurial pharmacy benefits manager operating nationally across all 50 states. As the legal market for PBM talent consolidates and large carriers continue to restructure, VytlOne offers something increasingly rare: a seat at the table where decisions actually get made. This is not a siloed role inside a large legal department. The Assistant General Counsel - PBM serves as the primary legal voice for a significant and growing business unit, working directly with executive leadership on strategy, contracting, regulation, and growth initiatives. If you are a seasoned PBM attorney who wants to own your work, build something meaningful, and have real influence on business outcomes - this role was designed for you.

WORK ARRANGEMENT: Remote (work from home), with approximately 2-4 trips per year for team meetings, client engagements, company events, or conferences.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. This document in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position):

Serve as primary legal counsel for the PBM business unit, advising executive leadership on strategy, regulatory developments, and business risk. Provide sound, practical judgment in the interpretation and application of relevant laws such as state PBM laws and regulations, federal PBM reform, and HIPAA. Demonstrate strong business acumen and the ability to structure, draft, and negotiate contracts. Identify legal and compliance issues and business risks and offer effective, tailored solutions. Identify and escalate to other leaders and the General Counsel as appropriate. Advise on regulatory issues and assist with inquiries from Departments of Insurance. Provide backup legal support for other business units, such as the Pharmacy Services unit and rebate aggregation. Handle a fast-paced and high-volume workload with sound prioritization. Lead and manage key projects as needed. Effectively communicate with all levels across VytlOne business entities. Understand complex legal, compliance, and business situations and discern relevant versus non-relevant facts. Collaborate cross-functionally and build deep knowledge of the business and key stakeholders. Proactively develop and maintain legal knowledge in specialized areas, remaining current on regulations, cases, trends, and best practices. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining high service levels. Provide leadership within the Legal Department by leading initiatives, ensuring consistency across staff, and adhering to department SOPs. Communicate in a professional and persuasive manner with appropriate support and substantiation for legal advice and recommendations. Manage and oversee outside counsel as necessary. Assist in managing litigation matters, including disputes, claims, and regulatory investigations. Promptly report any allegations of impropriety to the Compliance Department. Comply with VytlOne's Ethical Business Conduct policy and VytlOne's Compliance Program. Remain free from exclusion under the OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists. Complete required training, as assigned, within established timeframes. Hire, train, and develop departmental staff; conduct performance evaluations and provide career coaching. Promote teamwork and maintain regular attendance in accordance with established policies. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active Bar license

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with a significant portion spent in-house at a pharmacy benefit manager or health insurance carrier. Candidates without direct in-house PBM or payor experience will not be considered. Law firm experience in healthcare alone does not satisfy this requirement.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills. Highly effective written and verbal communication abilities. Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills. Highly motivated with drive and ability to dig into the details, provide insight, and drive decision-making. Demonstrated ability to translate business goals into agreements and assist internal clients in navigating legal issues to support both the business goals and the best interests of the Company. A natural leader with proven abilities across a broad range of internal and external constituents. Adaptable nature, with the ability to reassess and adjust due to the evolving nature of the business. Team player with a high level of self and cross-cultural awareness. Successful record for building strong and enduring relationships with a collaborative and engaging style, keeping ego in check. Highly intelligent, with intellectual curiosity to probe and understand complex business and legal issues and trends. Unquestionable integrity, ethics, and judgment.
