Job description

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.

Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016.  We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About This Role

As part of Intersect’s Engineering team, you’ll help design and deliver utility-scale battery energy storage systems that enable reliable, scalable clean energy infrastructure. This role brings together system design, performance modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-performing energy storage assets integrate seamlessly with generation and grid systems. You’ll play a key role in advancing projects from concept through execution, contributing to long-term decarbonization outcomes.

Team Overview

This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the renewable energy transition by designing and delivering high-impact energy infrastructure at scale. Working at the intersection of engineering, development, and execution, the team ensures projects are optimized for performance, safety, and long-term value. Joining this team means collaborating with experts across disciplines while contributing to projects that shape the future of energy.

What You’ll Do

Design and Optimize Energy Storage Systems

  • Lead a BESS project life cycle from land acquisition to COD

  • Support technical negotiations with the BESS OEM, EPCs and their subcontractors

  • Design and size utility-scale battery energy storage systems to meet project performance and reliability targets

  • Develop and refine performance models to optimize system efficiency and long-term output

  • Integrate storage systems with generation assets to ensure seamless operation and grid compatibility

Develop Power Systems and Infrastructure

  • Build and validate medium-voltage infrastructure calculation tools for large-scale energy projects

  • Support power plant design aligned with electrical and safety standards

  • Apply engineering best practices to ensure safe, scalable, and compliant system architecture

Collaborate to Deliver High-Impact Projects

  • Partner with cross-functional teams across engineering, development, and execution to bring projects to life

  • Contribute technical expertise to support decision-making across project lifecycle stages

  • Help deliver reliable, high-performance storage solutions that align with long-term infrastructure goals

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory, a M.S.EE or PhD is preferred

  • 3–7 years of experience in energy storage, power generation, or similar industries; experience with independent power producers will help you succeed

  • Hands-on experience designing or supporting utility-scale energy storage or large-scale power systems

  • Strong understanding of grid integration and power systems engineering principles

  • Expertise in BESS sizing, system design, and performance modeling

  • Experience developing medium-voltage infrastructure models and supporting large-scale plant design

  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery systems, particularly LFP chemistry for stationary applications

  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and other applicable electrical and safety standards

  • Experience with modeling tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, or similar platforms

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical requirements

  • Established connections within the energy storage ecosystem, including OEMs, EPC firms, or power producers, will help you succeed

  • Understanding of energy markets, project development cycles, and performance optimization strategies will help you succeed

  • A collaborative, detail-oriented work style that enables success in fast-paced, cross-functional environments

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a grounded approach to solving complex engineering challenges

  • A commitment to technical excellence, safety, and building infrastructure with long-term impact, aligned with Intersect’s core values
