An overview of this role
As the Internal Events Lead, you'll design, produce, and deliver internal events that strengthen connection among GitLab team members, reinforce company objectives, and bring our mission and vision to life. Because our team is fully remote and distributed across the globe, you'll create intentional, inclusive experiences that work across locations and time zones.
You'll sit within the People Communications and Engagement function and own GitLab's most visible internal touchpoints, including company-wide assemblies, Company Kick-Off, async-first virtual gatherings, and occasional in-person summits. You'll partner with the Executive Group, People Business Partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to create meaningful moments throughout the team member journey.
What you'll do
  • Design and lead GitLab's internal events strategy, including company-wide assemblies, ask me anything (AMA) sessions, Company Kick-Off, virtual gatherings, and occasional in-person summits.
  • Own the full event lifecycle, from concept development and budgeting through logistics, production, delivery, and post-event analysis.
  • Build scalable, accessible, and inclusive event experiences for a globally distributed workforce across all time zones.
  • Partner with Executive Communications, the Executive Group, senior leaders, People Business Partners, and cross-functional teams to align programming with company priorities and engagement goals.
  • Manage external vendors, production agencies, platform partners, creative projects, and internal event budgets with a focus on quality, cost-effective delivery, and return on investment.
  • Produce high-quality team member stories with agency partners for use in the Loop and internal events.
  • Define and track event success measures, using data and team member feedback to improve future experiences.
  • Explore event technologies and formats, including AI-powered tools, virtual platforms, and hybrid experiences, and use Internal Communications channels to build awareness and extend event storytelling.
What you'll bring
  • Experience planning and producing large-scale, complex internal events for audiences of more than 500 people, ideally within a distributed or remote-first organization.
  • Experience in corporate events, team member experience, internal communications, or a related function.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-visibility events while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Clear communication and confidence partnering with and presenting to senior leaders.
  • Experience managing event budgets and working with external production vendors and agencies.
  • Familiarity with virtual and hybrid event platforms, such as Zoom Events, and an interest in using AI tools to improve productivity, ideation, or event personalization.
  • Ability to use GitLab, or willingness to learn and adopt GitLab tools as part of your daily work.
  • A self-directed, proactive approach suited to a high-autonomy, asynchronous environment, along with empathy for remote team member experiences and connection across differences.
About the team
The People Communications and Engagement function helps GitLab team members stay informed, connected, and aligned in a fully remote, globally distributed company. The team works asynchronously and partners closely with the Executive Group, People Business Partners, Internal Communications, and teams across GitLab to create consistent and inclusive experiences that support company priorities and the team member journey.
