The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is a mission-driven non-profit dedicated to ensuring the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage. Since our founding in 1984, we have helped conserve nearly one square mile of elk country every day. In partnership with others, we have conserved or enhanced more than 9.2 million acres, including improving public access to 1.6 million acres. Our impact will extend to 10 million acres by 2030.ย 


RMEF is seeking a Software Developer to apply their technical expertise in a mission-focused environment - this position analyzes, designs, develops, documents, maintains and supports custom software solutions and systems. Essential functions include:

  • Design, develop, document and support software solutions.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between custom applications and third-party systems (e.g. NetSuite, payment processors, marketing platforms).
  • Use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly, including reviewing, testing, and correcting AI-generated code, and contributing to the team's shared AI context and conventions documentation.
  • Provide real time solutions for user problems.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of problems and issues until they are resolved.
  • Work closely with staff and management to provide effective organization-wide solutions.
  • Work with IT staff and/or vendor support services to resolve application or system issues.
  • Document organizational processes as they relate to software solutions.
  • Work with IT staff to define and maintain application lifecycle and security.
  • Create custom reports based on customer requirements.

Location: This position may work from RMEF's Headquarters office in Missoula, Montana or remotely within the United States. This is a full-time positionย

Qualifications include:

  • Graduation from a college, university, or technical school with a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience
  • Credentials and certifications on programming, operating systems, and other additional technical expertise.
  • Strong customer service skillsย 
  • Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted software developmentย 
  • Design, develop and maintain systems and applications using technologies including: SQL / SQL Server, C#, .NET (Framework 4.x and modern .NET), .NET MVC Framework, Entity Framework (including code-first migrations), Front-end JavaScript, Git Version Control, Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines)
  • General technical skills include: Object Oriented Programming, Object Oriented Design Patterns (i.e. "Gang of Four" Design Patterns). Building and Using Web APIs, Database Design, Systems integration and data synchronization between applications

  • General technical skills include: Object Oriented Programming, Object Oriented Design Patterns (i.e. "Gang of Four" Design Patterns), Building and Using Web APIs, Database Design, Systems integration and data synchronization between applications
  • Design, develop and maintain systems and applications using technologies including: SQL / SQL Server, C#, .NET (Framework 4.x and modern .NET), .NET MVC Framework, Entity Framework (including code-first migrations), Front-end JavaScript.   • Have or develop a working knowledge of the following technologies: NetSuite (integrations and data flows), Azure PaaS (App Services, Azure SQL, Bicep/infrastructure-as-code), Payment processing systems (e.g. CyberSource), Marketing and communications platforms (e.g. Klaviyo), PHP, WordPress/WooCommerce, Jenkins and IIS deployment environments
  • Relational database report writing skills.

  • Experience with client/server environments.


Physical Demands: Can sit for long periods. Constant use of office equipment such as telephones, computers, and copy machines are necessary. Some light lifting and bending are also necessary. Work hours may vary including evenings and weekends.ย
