Description

SAIC is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team of industry-leading innovators and technical experts. This role involves designing, analyzing, and managing complex electrical systems for a reconfigurable air defense project supporting defense, government, and commercial in Huntsville, AL.

The ideal candidate will bring 10–15 years of experience in electrical engineering, including expertise in designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and solutions. A strong understanding of electrical design principles, system integration, and advanced problem-solving skills are essential. Applicants should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and deliver results in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

This position presents an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge technology development and support initiatives that drive meaningful change in national security, defense, and other critical missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Design and Implementation:
    • Proficiency in designing and developing electrical components and systems.
    • Experience in integrating software design with electrical components.
    • Proficiency with design software such as SolidWorks, Altium Designer, or similar tools.
    • Capability to conduct testing and validation of component prototypes, perform simulations and analysis to predict system behavior, and prepare detailed documentation including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
    • Develop technical designs, schematics, layouts, and documentation for electronics and electrical systems, including power systems, control systems, and communication systems.
    • Perform calculations, simulations, and analysis for circuit design, power distribution, grounding, and load flow.
  • Collaboration and Integration:
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, program managers, and clients to develop integrated solutions that meet technical and programmatic requirements.
    • Coordinate with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical designs into broader system architectures.
    • Assist with managing engineering tasks across all phases of a project, from concept development and requirements definition to design, testing, and delivery.
    • Support technical reviews, design validation, and supplier management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Design Review and Compliance:
    • Conduct and participate in formal design reviews to verify compliance with specifications, regulations, and project objectives.
    • Ensure designs meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards, including NEC, IEEE, MIL-STD, and other relevant codes.
  • Troubleshooting and Testing:
    • Develop testing plans and validate the performance of electrical systems per design specifications.
    • Perform fault analysis and provide cost-effective solutions to technical challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Create detailed technical documentation, including drawings, schematics, test reports, and technical manuals.
    • Generate progress reports, risk assessments, and presentations to communicate status and results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Mentor and guide junior engineers, provide technical oversight, and foster professional growth.
    • Lead technical discussions with clients and stakeholders, offering guidance and recommendations.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience in Electrical Engineering; Additional six (6) years’ experience can be considered in lieu of degree (per contract vehicle). 

Clearance Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret; U.S. citizenship is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • 9+ years’ professional experience in electrical design, system integration, and testing, preferably in government, defense, or aerospace projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical power systems, circuit design, and signal systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and MIL-STD.
  • Experience with system integrative challenges for deploying electrical systems in environments with stringent requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to collaborate with coworkers, stakeholders, and external customers effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware and system-level design validation and testing.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and processes.
