What are remote IT jobs?

Remote IT jobs are positions in the information technology field that allow professionals to work from locations outside of a traditional office, often from home. These roles include a wide range of specializations such as software development, technical support, network administration, cybersecurity, and IT project management. Remote IT jobs leverage digital communication and collaboration tools to enable employees to perform their duties efficiently from anywhere with internet access. This flexibility often leads to improved work-life balance and access to a broader job market for IT professionals.

What are some common challenges faced by remote IT professionals, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote IT professionals often encounter challenges like communication barriers, time zone differences, and difficulty accessing on-site hardware. To manage these, it's important to establish clear communication channels with your team, use remote monitoring and management tools, and schedule regular check-ins. Building strong documentation practices and staying proactive with cybersecurity measures also help ensure smooth operations and collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote IT professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote IT professional, you need a solid background in computer systems, networking, troubleshooting, and often a degree in IT or related certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional. Familiarity with remote desktop tools, ticketing systems, VPNs, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is typically required. Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills are vital for collaborating effectively and supporting users remotely. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure reliable technical support and maintain seamless IT operations in distributed work environments.

What are remote IT jobs?

Remote IT jobs involve performing duties related to information technology from a remote location. These tech careers typically take two forms. First, remote IT workers may travel to a client’s site to provide face-to-face customer service or offer computer troubleshooting or repair help. Second, remote working may also mean performing IT tasks for a company over the internet instead of in the company’s offices. Remote IT professionals may have the same responsibilities for providing software support, database solutions, and other information technology services as IT workers who work in offices full-time.

Job Description:

You'll serve as the backbone of a lean, high-performing IT function supporting a global SaaS organization from its New York City headquarters. This is a highly visible, hands-on role where you'll own the technology experience for employees across the U.S. and internationally — from C-suite executives to remote hires across 15 countries. If you take pride in delivering seamless IT experiences, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and bring both technical depth and executive presence, we want to hear from you.

Our Environment

We are a growing e-learning SaaS company with 500 employees worldwide, including offices in 15 countries. Our NYC headquarters is home to our senior leadership team and serves as the hub for all global IT operations. The ideal candidate is a self-directed IT professional who can operate independently, think strategically, and roll up their sleeves when needed. Our environment runs primarily on Windows with a growing Mac presence, and our stack includes Microsoft 365, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Azure, SharePoint, and Zoom/Teams for collaboration and conferencing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the sole onsite IT resource in NYC, providing white-glove technical support to C-suite executives and end users across phone, email, chat, and in-person channels.
  • Deliver L1 and L2 support for Windows and macOS hardware, software, OS, and connectivity issues across a globally distributed user base.
  • Administer and maintain Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, and Intune for identity management, device lifecycle, and endpoint compliance.
  • Manage the provisioning, configuration, shipping, and lifecycle of IT equipment for U.S. and international employees, including coordinating customs for global shipments.
  • Support and maintain conference room technology, Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, A/V equipment, Wi-Fi, VPN, and office infrastructure.
  • Manage Help Desk tickets with timely resolution, clear communication, and SLA adherence.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, patch management, software deployments, and endpoint updates.
  • Partner with vendors including Okta and others to resolve technical issues and manage contracts and licensing.
  • Leverage PowerShell or other automation tools to streamline and improve IT operations.
  • Maintain accurate IT asset inventory, documentation, and support procedures.
  • Support remote onboarding and offboarding for new hires across global offices.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of hands-on IT support or systems administration experience in a corporate environment.
  • Strong proficiency across Windows and macOS environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure and/or AWS, Intune, Active Directory, and SharePoint.
  • Experience supporting international or globally distributed users, including remote provisioning and equipment shipping.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and firewall concepts.
  • Experience configuring and supporting video conferencing and conference room technology (Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms).
  • Strong vendor management and communication skills; comfortable negotiating and managing third-party relationships.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting or other automation tools.
  • Executive presence and polish — comfortable working directly with and supporting senior leadership in-person.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a metric-driven, detail-oriented mindset.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Microsoft, ITIL, CompTIA, or related certifications are a plus.
