Job description

Position Title:  Reading Physician
Department:  Operations
Reports To:  Chief Clinical Officer
FLSA:  Exempt

NMA is hiring a remote Reading Physician to interpret real-time IONM data and guide neuromonitoring teams during surgery. MD or DO required. Join the fastest growing IOM company!

Position Summary:

The Reading Physician provides remote supervision, interprets clinical data, and offers interventional recommendations during intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM). This role requires focused attention on interpreting IONM data to ensure patient safety and the preservation of neural structures during surgery.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate intraoperative neuromonitoring plans based on the surgical procedure, neural risks, clinical presentation, medical history, and radiologic findings.
  • Recommend anesthetic regimens to enhance data quality.
  • Guide neuromonitoring technologists in data acquisition, recording, and troubleshooting.
  • Confirm baseline data quality and monitor changes in real-time.
  • Interpret significant data changes and recommend interventions, including promptly communicating with the surgical team.
  • Suggest modifications to anesthetic regimens and physiological measures as needed.
  • Generate detailed reports of intraoperative sessions, documenting procedural details, monitoring modalities, and significant data changes.
  • Contribute to quality assurance initiatives and outcome measure development.
  • Mentor neuromonitoring technologists and facilitate professional development.
  • Transfer supervisory responsibility as needed, ensuring the communication of essential information.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of intraoperative neuromonitoring techniques.
  • Experience interpreting neurophysiological data during surgery.
  • Effective communication and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Proficiency with relevant tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities:
  • Advanced degree (MD or DO).
  • Medical license in the state where surgery is performed.
  • Clinical neurology or neurophysiology credentials (e.g., American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring or American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology).
  • Compliance with continuing education and licensure requirements.
  • Participation in M&M conferences as required.
Working Conditions:
  • Generally, work in a remote office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged periods of computer and office equipment usage.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain productivity under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Regular interaction with team members, clients, and other stakeholders through various communication channels.
