IFDC uniquely approaches the global issues of food security and poverty by bridging the gap between research and impact, combining science-based innovations, holistic market systems development, an enabling policy environment, and strategic partnerships to assist farmers and countries to identify and scale sustainable agricultural solutions, including improved nutrient use efficiency. These approaches are needed to boost soil health and crop productivity while reducing the environmental impact of fertilizer use. IFDC translates research into action by using locally driven, environmentally sound, and impact-oriented solutions. With our partners, we seek to close the yield gap, eradicate global hunger, safeguard the soil on which our lives depend, and generate economic resilience for farming households and the countries in which they live.  

Responsibilities

As part of IFDC’s open call for consultants, we are seeking experienced Budget & Pricing Specialists to join a roster of experts who can support the organization’s proposal development and business development efforts on an as-needed basis. The selected consultants will provide surge capacity and technical support for the design of high-quality, compliant, and competitive cost proposals for international development opportunities across a range of donors and contract mechanisms.

  • Lead or support the development of detailed cost proposals and budget narratives for donor-funded opportunities;
  • Collaborate with technical leads, proposal managers, and finance teams to cost out activities, staffing, and operational requirements, ensuring cost realism and consistency with technical designs;
  • Ensure that budgets and financial documentation comply with donor and internal IFDC requirements, including allowable costs, formats, and justifications;
  • Develop and document pricing assumptions, budget notes, and value-for-money analyses for internal and external review;
  • Coordinate with partners and subcontractors to consolidate and review budgets, ensuring compliance, alignment, and cost realism;
  • Provide quality assurance for budget submissions, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and consistency between technical and financial components;
  • Participate in internal review and strategy meetings related to proposal development and cost design;
  • Support the continuous improvement of IFDC’s budgeting tools, templates, and guidance materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, international development, or related field;
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in budgeting, pricing, cost proposal development, or financial management for donor-funded programs;
  • Experience preparing budgets for major bilateral or multilateral donors (e.g., USAID, FCDO, IFAD, World Bank, etc.);
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas and financial modeling;
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues;
  • Experience working in an international or multicultural environment preferred.

Reporting and Work Relationships

The Budget & Pricing Specialist will report to IFDC’s Budget Director and will work closely with the Business Development and Finance teams, as well as with proposal managers and technical leads.
