Position Overview

The Amatriot Group is currently seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Technical Specialist to support work with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert with experience in computer architecture, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, software engineering, and other computer science and computer engineering fields who can assess inventions in these fields for patentability.

The Intellectual Property Technical Specialist will support the NGA Office of Research and Technology Applications and the Office of General Counsel with patent assessments, preparation of patent applications related to inventions, and drafting responses to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office actions.

This position will be performed at NGA offices in either St. Louis, MO, or Springfield, VA. Remote work capabilities are authorized on an as-needed basis.


Key ResponsibilitiesPatent Search and Patentability Assessment
  • Conduct patent searches to assess the novelty and patentability of computer architecture, artificial intelligence, and other computer science and computer engineering inventions.
  • Conduct interviews with inventors to capture all required aspects of technologies submitted for the ORTA to make patenting recommendations.
Patent Application and Prosecution Support
  • Collaborate with inventors and OGC to develop patent prosecution strategy.
  • Work closely with OGC to prepare patent applications, including drafting specifications, drawings, and claims.
  • Ensure technical accuracy of the subject matter in patent applications.
  • Provide technical and legal research and analysis to assist OGC in support of NGA submissions pending before the USPTO.
  • Assist OGC with preparing responses to USPTO actions and docket management.
Documentation and Records Management
  • Ensure procedures are in place to classify and maintain records.
  • Interpret and enforce documentation formatting, standards, policies, and operating procedure requirements.

QualificationsEducation
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.

Experience
  • 5 years of experience related to the job responsibilities listed above with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or
  • 3 years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree in a related field; or
  • No years of experience with a PhD in a related field.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Computer architecture
    • Artificial intelligence
    • Machine learning
    • Deep learning
    • Computer vision
    • Software engineering
    • Programming
Skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrated superior writing and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of the Patent Laws, Manual of Patent Examining Procedure, and USPTO regulations.
Clearance
  • TS/SCI security clearance required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates located near NGA offices in either St. Louis, MO, or Springfield, VA.
  • USPTO registration preferred.
