Job description

As a Litigation Attorney, you'll play a vital role in protecting our policyholders, guiding them through challenging times, and ensuring their voices are heard in the legal system. You will report to a senior manager, litigation.
Depending on the candidate pool, this position may be filled at a higher level to maintain alignment with experience and qualifications.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage civil litigation for American Family and our insureds, following established guidelines and the highest ethical standards

  • Analyze files as litigation progresses as well as risk to the company. Evaluate cases and seeks settlement as necessary

  • Draft all necessary pleadings, papers and briefs to advance litigation activities at the trial or appellate level. Conduct necessary research in support of drafting activities

  • Advocate client position in all forums (state court, alternative dispute resolution, administrative tribunals and regulatory hearings) and circumstances, both formal and informal

  • Negotiate effectively in the resolution all issues

  • Stay current on state statutes and court decisions and analyze how statutes and court decisions affect the interpretation and enforceability of the various policy provisions

  • May develop areas of specialty practice (e.g. special property, workers` compensation, environmental law, commercial coverage)

What we need from you:

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service

  • Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses

  • Demonstrated litigation experience

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law

  • Admitted to the IL state bar

  • Juris Doctor
