How much do remote infrastructure jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 31, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote infrastructure in Ontario is $122,856.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $109,500.00 and $143,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is remote infrastructure?

Remote infrastructure refers to the combination of hardware, software, networks, and services that allow IT systems to be managed and accessed from remote locations. This setup enables organizations to operate, monitor, and maintain servers, storage, databases, and network resources without needing on-site presence. Remote infrastructure is essential for supporting remote work, cloud computing, distributed teams, and business continuity. It often involves the use of cloud platforms, virtual private networks (VPNs), monitoring tools, and automation to ensure secure and efficient operations.

What is the difference between Remote Infrastructure vs Remote Network Engineer?

AspectRemote InfrastructureRemote Network Engineer
Required CredentialsCertifications like CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, AWS Certified Solutions ArchitectCertifications like Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+
Work EnvironmentDesigning, implementing, and managing overall IT infrastructure including servers, storage, and cloud servicesConfiguring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network systems, routers, switches, and firewalls
Industry UsageUsed across cloud providers, enterprise IT, and data centersPrimarily in networking, cybersecurity, and telecom sectors

Remote Infrastructure professionals focus on the broader IT environment, including servers, cloud services, and storage, while Remote Network Engineers specialize in network hardware, configurations, and connectivity. Both roles require similar certifications and often work in overlapping industries, but their core responsibilities differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Engineer, you need expertise in network management, cloud computing, and server administration, often backed by a degree in computer science or IT and relevant certifications like AWS, Azure, or Cisco. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), virtualization platforms, and monitoring systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for success in remote and collaborative environments. These skills ensure reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure management, supporting business continuity and efficient operations.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote infrastructure roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote infrastructure roles often encounter challenges such as coordinating across time zones, troubleshooting issues without physical access to hardware, and maintaining clear communication with distributed teams. To address these, it's important to leverage robust remote monitoring and management tools, establish standardized procedures for incident response, and use collaboration platforms to stay connected with colleagues. Regular check-ins and thorough documentation also help ensure that everyone stays aligned and issues are resolved efficiently.

Job description

Location:ย Remote - Remote - Based In ET+2 / -3, NY Preferred

Remoteย | Full-time

Compensation:ย $170K - $220K

Our client is a venture-backed financial technology firm dedicated to transforming the global movement of money through stablecoin infrastructure. Backed by premier investors such as Paradigm and Dragonfly, the organization is building a full-service platform designed to make issuing, managing, and integrating digital dollars seamless for developers, fintechs, and institutional partners.

The team operates with the discipline of high-performance finance and the agility of a crypto-native startup. They are currently seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design and build an internal platform that empowers product teams to deploy software with confidence, reliability, and speed. This individual will bring a software engineering mindset to infrastructure by building reusable abstractions, internal services, and developer tooling that reduce cognitive load across the engineering organization.

This is a remote-friendly role with a preference for candidates who can maintain a majority overlap with Eastern Time (ET) business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Architecture: Own and evolve core platform components, including a TypeScript-based Pulumi codebase and Kubernetes-based runtime environments.
  • Engineering Standards: Enforce high engineering standards through code, architecting scalable systems that prioritize reliability and security.
  • Developer Experience: Improve developer productivity by building internal development platforms focused on self-service and "golden paths."
  • System Observability: Design and maintain the monitoring stack, defining SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and operational dashboards.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Build reusable systems and infrastructure primitives rather than one-off scripts to ensure a scalable and maintainable environment.
  • Operational Excellence: Participate in the maintenance and operations of production-grade systems, including on-call rotations and incident response tooling.

Requirements

  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a significant focus on infrastructure and cloud domains.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong programming skills in TypeScript or another strictly typed language.
  • Cloud & Orchestration: Deep understanding of AWS architecture and proven experience designing, operating, and scaling Kubernetes workloads.
  • Systems Design: Strong grasp of distributed systems fundamentals, including availability, consistency, and fault tolerance.
  • Tooling & Patterns: Familiarity with GitOps patterns, deployment automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) systems.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to operate in short feedback loops and a desire to build foundational infrastructure for the future of digital finance.
  • Time Zone Alignment: Ability to provide significant overlap with Eastern Time business hours.

Benefits

  • High-Impact Work: Opportunity to build foundational infrastructure for a next-generation financial fabric.
  • Elite Team: Work alongside a small, mission-driven group of builders from high-performance finance and crypto backgrounds.
  • Growth Environment: Engagement with a fast-moving, well-funded startup during a period of high growth.
  • Inclusive Culture: Our client is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer, committed to fostering a diverse and equitable workplace regardless of race, religion, gender identity, or veteran status.

Interview Process

The selection process for this position consists of the following stages:

  1. Recruiter / HR Initial Screening: Candidates will be asked to respond to a set of questions via video recording.
  2. Hiring Manager Interview: A technical and background discussion with the Head of Engineering.
  3. Technical Interview I: Deep dive into engineering capabilities and systems design.
  4. Technical Interview II: Further assessment of infrastructure expertise and coding proficiency.
  5. Final Interview: Comprehensive review and cultural alignment.
