What is remote infrastructure?

Remote infrastructure refers to the combination of hardware, software, networks, and services that allow IT systems to be managed and accessed from remote locations. This setup enables organizations to operate, monitor, and maintain servers, storage, databases, and network resources without needing on-site presence. Remote infrastructure is essential for supporting remote work, cloud computing, distributed teams, and business continuity. It often involves the use of cloud platforms, virtual private networks (VPNs), monitoring tools, and automation to ensure secure and efficient operations.

What is the difference between Remote Infrastructure vs Remote Network Engineer?

AspectRemote InfrastructureRemote Network Engineer
Required CredentialsCertifications like CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, AWS Certified Solutions ArchitectCertifications like Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+
Work EnvironmentDesigning, implementing, and managing overall IT infrastructure including servers, storage, and cloud servicesConfiguring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network systems, routers, switches, and firewalls
Industry UsageUsed across cloud providers, enterprise IT, and data centersPrimarily in networking, cybersecurity, and telecom sectors

Remote Infrastructure professionals focus on the broader IT environment, including servers, cloud services, and storage, while Remote Network Engineers specialize in network hardware, configurations, and connectivity. Both roles require similar certifications and often work in overlapping industries, but their core responsibilities differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Engineer, you need expertise in network management, cloud computing, and server administration, often backed by a degree in computer science or IT and relevant certifications like AWS, Azure, or Cisco. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), virtualization platforms, and monitoring systems is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for success in remote and collaborative environments. These skills ensure reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure management, supporting business continuity and efficient operations.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote infrastructure roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote infrastructure roles often encounter challenges such as coordinating across time zones, troubleshooting issues without physical access to hardware, and maintaining clear communication with distributed teams. To address these, it's important to leverage robust remote monitoring and management tools, establish standardized procedures for incident response, and use collaboration platforms to stay connected with colleagues. Regular check-ins and thorough documentation also help ensure that everyone stays aligned and issues are resolved efficiently.

CRH Americas Building Products is reinventing what's possible in building solutions. We are the leading provider of innovative outdoor living products and utility infrastructure solutions for the water, energy, and communications markets throughout North America. We're a trusted and strategic partner to engineers, contractors, distributors, specifiers, retailers and homeowners alike as the manufacturer of precast concrete, polymer concrete, and plastic infrastructure products. Our portfolio of brands includes Oldcastle APG, Oldcastle Infrastructure, Belgardยฎ hardscape, Echelonยฎ Masonry, RDIยฎ railing, Catalystโ„ข Fence Solutions, Sakreteยฎ packaged concrete, Amerimixยฎ mortar, Pebble Technology Internationalยฎ pool finishes, and Technisealยฎ sands and sealant technologies.

Job Summary

Oldcastle Infrastructure (OI), as part of CRHโ€™s Infrastructure Products Group (IPG), is a global manufacturing leader of utility infrastructure products.ย  Our goal is to be the most efficient producer of engineered systems and our customersโ€™ strategic partner of choice. A crucial part of OIโ€™s journey is the investment in a new ERP system.ย  With a modern, common platform, OI will unlock the benefits of its scale, deliver a better customer experience, and build a foundation for continuous process improvement.ย

We are seeking a Master Data Management (MDM) Specialist to support both ongoing ERP conversion initiatives and steady-state master data governance in a dynamic, manufacturing-focused environment.

This role is ideal for a business-minded SAP professional who understands how master data drives operational execution โ€” not just how to enter it. You will partner with business SMEs, technical teams, and data leadership to construct, analyze, migrate, and maintain high-quality master data within SAP S/4HANA.

Depending on experience and business needs, this role will focus on one primary domain:

โ€ข Material Management

โ€ข Business Partner (Customer/Vendor/Employee)

Our team operates in a hybrid model of recurring conversion waves (every ~90 days) and continuous process improvement initiatives. This role flexes between implementation-focused work and operational MDM support.

Job Location

  • This role will be remote based in the US with periodic heavy domestic travel.ย

Job Responsibilities

ERP Conversion & Data Construction

  • Partner with business process owners and SMEs to define and validate master data requirements
  • Construct, transform, and validate master data using Excel prior to SAP upload
  • Prepare and manage SAP migration templates (Migration Cockpit, LSMW)
  • Perform analytical data review to identify patterns, inconsistencies, and structural issues
  • Support recurring conversion waves and implementation cycles
  • Assist in hyper-care during go-live and blackout periods

Master Data Governance (Run & Maintain)

  • Create and maintain master data in SAP S/4HANA (Fiori and GUI)
  • Support future implementation of SAP MDG governance processes
  • Monitor data quality and identify root causes of defects
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve master data processes
  • Support business users during hyper-care and steady-state operations

Job Requirements

  • At least 3โ€“5 years of experience working with SAP master data (2+ years considered with strong background)
  • Hands-on experience in either:
    • Material Master (MM) in a manufacturing environment
    • Business Partner (Customer/Vendor) master data
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation or migration
  • Experience constructing and transforming data in Excel for SAP upload
  • Working knowledge of SAP table structures related to MM or BP
  • Strong understanding of how master data impacts manufacturing, supply chain, or order-to-cash processes
  • Preferred Experience:
    • SAP S/4HANA experience
    • Experience with mass uploads and record creation
    • Exposure to SAP MDG
    • Manufacturing experience (Make-to-Order or Engineer-to-Order environments preferred)
  • Thinks analytically about data structures and patterns
  • Understands business context behind master data
  • Can translate between business SMEs and technical teams
  • Identifies root causes instead of correcting records one at a time
  • Is comfortable working in Excel to construct structured datasets
  • Operates well in a fast-moving, wave-based implementation model

Compensation

  • Salary range of $90,000 to $105,000/year
  • 10% annual bonus target
  • 401(k) planโ€‹ย / group retirement savings programโ€‹
  • Short-term and long-term disability benefitsโ€‹โ€‹
  • Life insuranceโ€‹
  • Health, dental, and vision insuranceโ€‹
  • Paid time offย โ€‹
  • Paid holidays

What CRH Offers You

  • Highly competitive base pay
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and disability benefits programs
  • Group retirement savings program
  • Health and wellness programs
  • An inclusive culture that values opportunity for growth, development, and internal promotion
