What is remote infrastructure asset management?

Remote infrastructure asset management is the process of monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing physical and digital assets—such as servers, networks, and hardware—from a remote location. This approach uses specialized software and tools to track asset performance, manage lifecycles, and ensure systems are running efficiently without needing on-site presence. It helps organizations reduce downtime, improve resource allocation, and lower operational costs while maintaining robust infrastructure oversight. The role often involves using cloud-based solutions, IoT devices, and automation technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Remote Infrastructure Asset Management, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Infrastructure Asset Management, you need a strong background in asset lifecycle management, data analysis, and infrastructure systems, typically supported by a degree in engineering, IT, or a related field. Familiarity with asset management software (such as IBM Maximo or SAP EAM), GIS platforms, and remote monitoring tools is commonly required, along with relevant certifications like IAM or ISO 55001. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help professionals coordinate across teams and address issues proactively. These skills ensure efficient operation, cost control, and risk mitigation for distributed infrastructure assets.

What are some common challenges faced in a Remote Infrastructure Asset Management role, and how can they be addressed?

One of the main challenges in Remote Infrastructure Asset Management is ensuring accurate, real-time visibility of assets that are geographically dispersed. This requires effective use of digital tools and strong communication with on-site teams. Additionally, coordinating maintenance and responding to unexpected issues remotely can be demanding, so developing robust processes for remote diagnostics and leveraging IoT technologies is vital. Building strong relationships with local stakeholders and continuously updating asset records also help in overcoming these challenges.

Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.
Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We're on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Asset Manager
About This Role
As part of Intersect's Asset Management team, you'll help maximize the long-term value, performance, and reliability of a portfolio of integrated power generation assets serving data center customers. These facilities combine solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and natural gas generation technologies to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective power to some of the world's most energy-intensive operations.
You'll serve as the commercial and financial owner of assigned assets throughout their operational lifecycle, partnering closely with Operations, Trading, Finance, Development, and external stakeholders to optimize performance, manage risk, and ensure compliance with project agreements. This role combines financial leadership, strategic problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration to drive asset value creation across a complex and evolving energy infrastructure portfolio.
Team Overview
This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by maximizing the performance, value, and reliability of operating assets across our portfolio. Asset Management serves as the bridge between commercial, operational, and financial functions, ensuring projects deliver on their expected returns while supporting long-term customer and stakeholder commitments.
Working closely with Finance, Operations, Development, Trading, and external partners, the team drives strategic decision-making throughout the operational lifecycle of assets. Joining this team offers the opportunity to influence business outcomes, solve complex challenges, and contribute to the growth of innovative energy infrastructure projects at scale.
What You'll Do
Drive Financial Performance
  • Own the financial performance, cash position, and value optimization strategies for assigned operating assets.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly update project budgets, forecasts, financial models, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Monitor revenue drivers, operating costs, and key economic performance indicators that influence asset value.
  • Analyze operational and financial variances, identify root causes, and develop corrective action plans to improve performance.

Optimize Asset Value
  • Partner with Trading, Operations, and Finance teams to improve commercial outcomes and maximize portfolio returns.
  • Support asset optimization initiatives through financial analysis, business case development, and strategic recommendations.
  • Contribute to refinancing activities, capital projects, acquisitions, divestitures, and other value-enhancing opportunities.
  • Evaluate risks and opportunities that impact long-term asset performance and investment returns.

Manage Commercial Obligations
  • Ensure compliance with PPAs, O&M agreements, LTSAs, financing agreements, warranties, interconnection agreements, land agreements, and shared infrastructure contracts.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and market-based incentive programs, including tax credits and environmental attributes.
  • Support contract negotiations, amendments, renewals, and commercial discussions to protect and enhance asset value.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with lenders, investors, customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Enhance Operational Performance
  • Monitor project performance against financial, operational, and commercial objectives.
  • Identify emerging technical, operational, or commercial issues and coordinate resolution strategies with cross-functional teams.
  • Support project transitions from development and construction into commercial operations.
  • Ensure operational readiness and effective handoffs throughout the asset lifecycle.

Support Data Center Power Solutions
  • Develop expertise in data center power requirements, reliability expectations, and customer priorities.
  • Understand the technical and commercial characteristics of integrated solar, wind, BESS, and natural gas facilities serving data center customers.
  • Monitor industry trends, customer needs, and market developments that may impact asset performance and valuation.
  • Provide insights that support long-term strategic planning and customer success.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in asset management, project development, project finance, commercial management, project administration, or a related role within the energy or infrastructure industry.
  • Experience managing operational assets with direct responsibility for financial performance and business outcomes.
  • Strong financial analysis capabilities, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Experience reviewing, managing, negotiating, and administering complex commercial agreements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with multi-technology energy projects, ERCOT or other ISO/RTO markets, and data center customers is highly valued.
