What is a remote immigration paralegal?

A Remote Immigration Paralegal assists immigration attorneys with legal research, document preparation, client communication, and case management while working from a remote location. They help with visa applications, green cards, citizenship petitions, and other immigration matters. Strong knowledge of immigration laws, attention to detail, and proficiency with legal software are essential for this role.

What does a remote immigration paralegal do?

A typical day for a Remote Immigration Paralegal involves drafting and organizing petitions, gathering supporting documentation, tracking case deadlines, and conducting legal research. Most work is done independently from a home office, but frequent collaboration occurs through video calls, emails, and secure document-sharing platforms to coordinate with supervising attorneys and update clients on case progress. Paralegals also respond to client inquiries and ensure all case files are current and complete. This remote structure allows for flexibility but also requires strong self-motivation and proactive communication to ensure all team members and clients are aligned. Effective virtual teamwork is key to maintaining efficiency and quality in legal case management.

To thrive as a Remote Immigration Paralegal, you need a solid understanding of immigration law, strong research and writing skills, and experience with preparing and managing legal documents, often supported by a paralegal certificate or relevant degree. Familiarity with document management systems, immigration case management software (like INSZoom or LawLogix), and proficiency in Microsoft Office are typically necessary. Exceptional attention to detail, initiative, time management, and the ability to communicate clearly, particularly in a virtual environment, are important soft skills. These competencies are essential for delivering timely, accurate legal support while successfully collaborating with attorneys and clients from a remote setting.

Are remote immigration paralegals in demand?

Remote immigration paralegals are in demand due to increasing immigration cases and the need for legal support. Employers value skills in legal research, document preparation, and familiarity with immigration laws, making remote roles a growing part of the legal support workforce.

How do I become a remote immigration paralegal?

To become a remote immigration paralegal, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles preferring an associate degree or paralegal certification. Relevant skills include knowledge of immigration law, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency with legal software. Job description

Remote Litigation Paralegal – Employment Law

About the Opportunity
Equivity is seeking an experienced Remote Litigation Paralegal with a strong general civil litigation background and experience supporting employment law matters.

This is an assignment-based opportunity designed for paralegals who value the flexibility of remote work and enjoy supporting a variety of law firms and matters across the country. As client needs evolve, assignments and workload may vary based on business demand. This role is a good fit for an experienced paralegal who values professional flexibility and is comfortable with a workload that can fluctuate rather than requiring a guaranteed number of weekly hours from the outset.

When actively supporting clients, responsiveness is important. Because client needs can arise on short notice, paralegals are expected to remain responsive to their active clients and Equivity managers within one hour during their stated availability.

If you're an experienced litigation paralegal who appreciates autonomy, remote flexibility, and the opportunity to work with multiple legal teams, this assignment-based model may be a strong fit.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Preparing, formatting, proofreading, and revising pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other litigation documents
  • Supporting employment law and general civil litigation matters throughout the litigation lifecycle
  • Managing discovery, including document collection, organization, review, production, and tracking
  • Preparing and submitting filings in state and federal courts
  • Maintaining litigation calendars, deadlines, case files, and task trackers
  • Assisting with deposition, mediation, hearing, and trial preparation
  • Conducting legal and factual research
  • Coordinating with attorneys, clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other legal professionals
  • Managing multiple active matters while meeting competing deadlines
  • Learning and working across various legal technology platforms and client systems

We are looking for:
  • At least three years of recent paralegal experience
  • Strong experience supporting general civil litigation matters
  • Experience with employment law matters
  • Familiarity with state and federal court procedures and electronic filing systems
  • Strong legal writing, proofreading, organization, and document-management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines, and client priorities
  • Comfortable learning and using different legal technology platforms
  • Experience with Clio is a plus
  • Responsiveness within 1 hour during business hours

Compensation and Work Structure
  • W-2 employment
  • Compensation: $26 per hour
  • Assignment-based work with client assignments determined by demand, qualifications, and availability
  • Assignment volume and hours may vary
  • Client assignments may take time to develop and are not guaranteed immediately upon joining

Why Join Equivity?
At Equivity, you will join a nationwide team of experienced legal professionals providing high-quality support to law firms across the country. Our paralegals have the opportunity to perform substantive legal work, build lasting professional relationships, and support clients in their areas of experience.

Benefits may include:
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick time
  • Employee discounts
  • Annual performance bonuses
  • Six-month pay reviews with potential hourly increases based on performance
  • Reimbursement of certain business expenses
  • Professional development and advancement opportunities
  • Additional benefits may apply based on eligibility and employment status

Equivity is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
