Reports to: Manager, Software Engineering

Purpose

The ESB tower currently runs on a single internal engineer with no assigned technical lead. This role establishes the first Lead-level ownership of the Enterprise Service Bus, providing the technical leadership, standards, and mentorship the platform has lacked while it carries integration traffic across SWFT, CareTend, Camunda, and partner systems.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Provide the first dedicated technical leadership for the ESB platform, establishing coding standards, error-handling patterns, and monitoring practices.
  • Design, build, and maintain integration flows, message routing, and transformation logic across SWFT, CareTend, and downstream partner systems.
  • Mentor and coordinate the work of the ESB Software Engineer(s), including existing staff and future Phase hires.

Cross-Platform Coordination

  • Partner with the Camunda Software Architect to define clear boundaries between orchestration (Camunda) and integration (ESB) responsibilities.
  • Support SWFTx streaming initiative dependencies and EDW integration touchpoints, coordinating with the SWFTx Lead Software Engineer on shared timelines.
  • Own incident escalation and root-cause resolution for ESB-related production issues.

Planning & Governance

  • Participate in capacity planning for the Enterprise Pharmacy Systems tower alongside the Camunda and SWFTx leads.
  • Contribute ESB standards to the shared architecture governance model maintained by the Principal Architect.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a technical lead capacity.
  • Experience with enterprise integration patterns and ESB/message broker platforms (e.g., BizTalk, MuleSoft, or comparable).
  • Strong SQL and .NET skills, with hands-on API development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or leading other engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Camunda or other workflow orchestration platforms.
  • Healthcare or specialty pharmacy systems experience.
  • Experience with Azure Event Hubs, Azure Service Bus, or other cloud messaging infrastructure.

Work Environment

This job works in a professional home office and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
