How does a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams during the project lifecycle?

As a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer, collaboration with on-site teams is often achieved through regular video conferences, shared digital platforms for design reviews, and cloud-based project management tools. Clear and proactive communication is essential to address any real-time issues that may arise during installation or testing. Engineers frequently participate in virtual walkthroughs, provide technical documentation, and offer remote troubleshooting support to ensure seamless coordination between design and implementation teams. This collaborative approach helps maintain project timelines and quality standards despite geographical separation.

What does a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer do?

A Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing hydraulic systems used in machinery and equipment, often working from a remote location. Their duties include creating technical drawings, selecting hydraulic components, performing simulations, and collaborating with other engineers and clients through digital communication tools. They ensure that hydraulic systems meet performance, safety, and efficiency standards, and may also provide troubleshooting support and documentation. Working remotely, they use specialized software to design and model systems, making it possible to contribute to projects without being on-site.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, and hydraulic system design, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and professional certification (e.g., PE or equivalent). Familiarity with CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks), hydraulic simulation tools, and industry standards is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and managing complex projects. These skills ensure the engineer can design efficient, reliable hydraulic systems while coordinating effectively with global teams and meeting client requirements.

What is the difference between Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer vs Hydraulic Systems Technician?

Job description

About Company:

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC is a professional consulting firm specializing in construction inspection and compliance services for public infrastructure projects. Our core services include on-site inspection of roadway, bridge, and utility construction to ensure adherence to engineering specifications, safety standards, and contract requirements. We support clients with daily reporting, materials testing coordination, schedule tracking, and quality assurance oversight. Additional services include project management, grants management for federally funded infrastructure and disaster recovery programs.

About the Role:

The Hydraulic Engineer will support the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) READI contract by providing hydraulic and water resources engineering expertise for civil works, flood risk management, stormwater infrastructure, and resiliency projects. The engineer will support planning, design, analysis, and evaluation of hydraulic systems and water infrastructure in accordance with USACE engineering standards, federal regulations, and project-specific requirements.

This role involves performing hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, developing engineering designs, conducting field assessments, and supporting multidisciplinary infrastructure projects that enhance public safety, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. The Hydraulic Engineer will collaborate with federal stakeholders, project managers, environmental specialists, and design teams to deliver technically sound and compliant engineering solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within the required timeframe.
  • Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, or equivalent tools.
  • Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, hydrology, stormwater management, and water resource engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or related engineering design software.
  • Ability to interpret and apply USACE engineering manuals, technical guidance, and federal design standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masterโ€™s degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting USACE, FEMA, EPA, or other federal infrastructure and water resource projects.
  • Experience with flood risk management, levee systems, drainage infrastructure, dam safety, or water distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications for hydraulic analysis and mapping.
  • Knowledge of NEPA compliance, environmental permitting, and sustainability practices related to water resources projects.
  • Experience supporting large-scale civil works or military infrastructure projects.
  • Project management experience or certification supporting federal engineering programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analyses for flood control systems, drainage networks, stormwater infrastructure, levees, pipelines, pump stations, and related water resource facilities.
  • Develop and evaluate hydraulic models using HEC-RAS, SWMM, HEC-HMS, and other approved engineering software.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation, specifications, and construction support documents in compliance with USACE standards.
  • Support planning, design, and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure and water resource systems under the READI contract.
  • Conduct field investigations, inspections, and condition assessments of existing hydraulic infrastructure and recommend corrective actions or improvements.
  • Coordinate with civil engineers, environmental scientists, geotechnical engineers, and project managers to integrate hydraulic solutions into multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including USACE engineering criteria and environmental requirements.
  • Support project scheduling, budgeting, quality control, and deliverable management to ensure timely and compliant project execution.
  • Participate in technical reviews, stakeholder coordination meetings, and design review processes.

Skills:

The ideal candidate must possess strong hydraulic and hydrologic modeling capabilities with experience using industry-standard software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, or similar tools to analyze water flow, stormwater systems, and flood risk conditions.
