Remote Humanitarian Project Management information

What is remote humanitarian project management?

Remote humanitarian project management involves overseeing and coordinating humanitarian aid projects from a distance, often using digital tools and virtual communication. Project managers in this field are responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring relief efforts, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and goals are met, even when not physically present on-site. This role requires strong organizational, cross-cultural communication, and problem-solving skills to address challenges such as time zone differences, limited on-ground visibility, and coordination with local partners. It is increasingly important as organizations adapt to global challenges and seek to maintain operations in areas that may be difficult or unsafe to access directly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote humanitarian project manager?

To thrive as a Remote Humanitarian Project Manager, you need a strong background in project management, humanitarian principles, and a relevant degree such as international development or public health. Familiarity with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Trello), budgeting tools, and certifications like PMP or Prince2 are highly beneficial. Excellent communication, cross-cultural sensitivity, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for coordinating dispersed teams and stakeholders. These competencies ensure projects are delivered effectively, ethically, and efficiently in challenging, resource-limited environments.

What are some common challenges faced in remote humanitarian project management, and how can they be effectively addressed?

Remote humanitarian project managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating teams across different time zones, ensuring clear communication despite limited face-to-face interaction, and managing logistics in rapidly changing environments. To address these issues, leveraging robust digital collaboration tools, setting regular check-ins, and establishing clear protocols for decision-making are essential. Building strong relationships with local partners and empowering field staff also help maintain project momentum when physical presence is limited.

Job description

Description

Are you the kind of project leader who can bring structure to complexity, connect business needs with technology solutions, and keep cross-functional teams moving in the same direction? Johnson Health Tech North America is looking for a Project Manager I to help guide key IT and business systems initiatives across our ERP, CRM, and POS environments.

At Johnson Health Tech, we're driven by a mission to delight and excite our customers through innovative products, unsurpassed quality, and best-in-class customer experiences. As part of our IT team, you'll play an important role in making that mission possible by helping teams improve processes, adopt solutions, and deliver projects that support the way our business works every day.

Where You'll Make an Impact

In this role, you'll serve as a key connection point between IT, business users, vendors, and project stakeholders. You'll help lead projects from planning through delivery, supporting teams through requirements gathering, solution design, communication, testing, implementation, and adoption.

  • Lead and coordinate projects across business and technology teams, helping ensure work stays on track, on budget, and aligned with business needs.
  • Partner with business users and analysts to understand current processes, identify improvement opportunities, and support thoughtful system solutions.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing, communication plans, training efforts, and user adoption activities.
  • Track project budgets, benefits, ROI, vendor deliverables, risks, and lessons learned.
  • Support resource planning, staffing forecasts, and project capacity across IT and business teams.
  • Promote project management best practices and contribute to continuous improvement across the organization.

Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of project management experience.
  • Experience with MRP, ERP, and/or CRM systems, with SAP ERP and Microsoft Dynamics CRM experience preferred.
  • Experience using project or portfolio management tools such as MS Project, Smartsheet, or Jira.
  • Knowledge of PMI PMBOK, Agile, Scrum, and hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with the ability to motivate work through influence, even without direct authority.
  • PMP or related certification strongly preferred.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, visibility, and meaningful business impact. You'll work closely with teams across the organization, support projects tied to critical business systems, and help shape how technology is adopted and used across Johnson Health Tech North America.
