HCM Unlocked is a nationally recognized HR technology consulting firm. We partner with employee benefits broker agencies and their clients to assess, evaluate, and optimize HR, payroll, and benefits administration technology.

Through our Broker Advisory Membership (BAM) program, we empower brokers to win and retain business by offering strategic HR tech expertise, unbiased vendor guidance, and hands-on implementation and optimization support.

Position Overview

The HR Technology Consultant supports brokers and employers in navigating the complex HR and benefits technology landscape.

This role is ideal for someone who has a strong foundation in HR, benefits, or HR technology and is ready to grow into a more strategic consulting role. The Consultant will contribute to client engagements from discovery through vendor selection and implementation readiness, working closely with senior team members to drive progress and deliver high-quality outcomes.

As part of a growing consulting team, this individual will play a meaningful role in shaping how HCM Unlocked delivers its services. The Consultant will partner closely with HCMU sellers and senior consultants to support broker relationships, contribute to client strategy, and help build scalable tools and content.

The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. They are comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicating with clients, and taking ownership of their work while continuing to develop their consulting skillset.

This is a remote role with periodic travel for client meetings and industry events.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Consulting & Advisory

  • Support HR technology assessments to identify gaps across payroll, HRIS, and benefits administration systems

  • Gather and document client requirements, current state processes, and future state goals

  • Assist in developing vendor shortlists and coordinating evaluation activities, including demos and feedback collection

  • Contribute to client deliverables, including summaries, recommendations, and comparison tools

  • Help maintain momentum across engagements by tracking timelines, follow-ups, and next steps

Broker Partnership & Enablement

  • Partner with HCMU sellers and senior consultants to support broker agency relationships

  • Serve as a resource to BAM agencies by providing HR tech insights, research, and supporting materials

  • Assist in preparing and delivering education sessions, playbooks, and client-facing content

  • Contribute to sales enablement efforts, including development of one-pagers, case studies, presentations, and toolkits

Vendor & Market Intelligence

  • Build knowledge of the HR and benefits technology landscape, including vendor capabilities and service models

  • Conduct research on vendor functionality, integrations, and positioning

  • Support the development of vendor comparisons and client recommendations

  • Participate in vendor meetings and demos to stay current on market trends

Practice Development & Content Creation

  • Contribute to the development of internal tools, templates, and best practices

  • Support creation of thought leadership content, including articles, presentations, and client materials

  • Assist in building scalable resources that support both client delivery and broker enablement

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency and quality across deliverables

Qualifications:

  • 36 years of experience in employee benefits, HR, HR technology, or related consulting/support roles

  • Foundational knowledge of employee benefits and compliance (ACA, COBRA, ERISA)

  • Familiarity with HR technology platforms (ADP, Paylocity, Paycor, UKG, Dayforce, BambooHR, Rippling, etc.)

  • Strong interest in HR technology consulting and desire to grow into a client-facing advisory role

Preferred:

  • Prior exposure to HRIS, payroll, or benefits administration systems

  • Experience supporting client-facing work or consulting engagements

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $95,000-$105,000. This range is based on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and market data, and represents our good faith estimate at the time of posting. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, and life), voluntary benefits, pet insurance, retirement plan, and PTO.
