Director of HR and Payroll
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of HR and Payroll to lead and integrate our human resources and payroll operations. This combined leadership role is key to ensuring operational excellence and compliance, while driving employee engagement and aligning HR initiatives with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Leadership
- Develop and drive HR strategies that support organizational objectives, foster culture, and promote diversity and inclusion
- Lead talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, career development, and succession planning
- Oversee employee relations, grievance resolution, disciplinary procedures, and performance improvement frameworks
- Manage benefits administration, including open enrollment, leave of absence programs, ADA and FMLA compliance, worker’s compensation and regulatory postings
- Ensure HR policy compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and conduct periodic audits
Payroll Oversight
- Lead and participate in end-to-end payroll processes to guarantee accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
- Approve payroll transactions, manage deductions, reconcile discrepancies, and oversee year-end reporting (e.g. W‐2s)
- Manage benefit enrollment and compliance
- Administer HRIS/payroll systems, train users, and optimize system workflows
- Collaborate with finance to incorporate payroll insights into budgeting and forecasting and prepare payroll-related analytics
Strategic & Cross‐Functional Collaboration
- Partner with senior leadership to align HR and payroll strategies with broader business objectives
- Analyze and report on HR and payroll metrics; identify areas for improvement and lead process enhancements
- Manage vendor relationships, including HR service providers and auditors
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7–10+ years of progressive HR and payroll experience, with at least 3–5 years in leadership or combined roles
- Bi-Lingual strongly preferred (Spanish)
- Certifications such as SHRM‐SCP, SPHR, PHR, CPP, or equivalent are strongly preferred
- Proficiency with HRIS/payroll platforms (e.g., ADP, BambooHR, Oracle) and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word in particular)
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations, tax laws, labor laws, HR compliance, worker’s compensation and benefits administration
- Exceptional leadership, communication, analytical, and conflict‐resolution skills
- High integrity, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information
